Our help is in the name of the Lord

It is very good to read each account of the Bible, because beyond being valuable, they are not simply “stories.” They are real, historical events through which God reveals His character, His purposes, and His dealings with humanity. These accounts were preserved not merely for information, but for transformation. They teach us how to live, how to trust God, and how to avoid the same mistakes made by those who came before us.

An example of this is the people of Israel. From them, we can learn both from their virtues and from their failures. Their history is not distant or irrelevant—it is deeply connected to our own spiritual journey. Their story reflects the condition of the human heart: capable of witnessing God’s power and yet prone to forget Him. Time and time again, Israel saw the mighty hand of God, yet they often turned away. This teaches us how easily we too can lose focus if we are not firmly rooted in Him.

The Danger of Forgetting God

In many moments, the people of Israel forgot that God was their refuge and turned to other “gods.” They abandoned the One who had delivered them and sought security in things that could not save. This was not simply ignorance—it was a failure of remembrance and trust.

They forgot the miracles in Egypt, the crossing of the Red Sea, the provision in the wilderness, and the countless times God had intervened on their behalf. Despite all these demonstrations of divine power, their hearts drifted. This pattern reveals something profound: forgetfulness is one of the greatest dangers in the spiritual life.

In the same way, God has done powerful works in our lives. He has delivered us, provided for us, guided us, and sustained us. Yet there are moments when we forget. In times of fear, uncertainty, or difficulty, we begin to look for solutions outside of God. We turn to human strength, temporary comforts, or false securities instead of remembering the One who has been faithful again and again.

When we forget God, we begin to replace Him. It may not always be with literal idols, but with things that take His place in our hearts—money, relationships, success, or personal abilities. These become our “refuges,” even though they cannot truly save us.

Learning from Israel’s Failures and Faith

The history of Israel is both a warning and an encouragement. It warns us of the consequences of turning away from God, but it also reveals His incredible patience and mercy. Even when Israel failed, God remained faithful.

This should give us hope. Our failures do not surprise God, nor do they cancel His promises. However, they do remind us of our need to remain close to Him. Israel’s journey shows us that spiritual drift does not happen suddenly—it happens gradually, through small compromises and neglected devotion.

The key to remaining faithful is remembrance. We must continually remind ourselves of who God is and what He has done. This is why Scripture repeatedly calls us to remember His works, His promises, and His faithfulness.

God as Our True Refuge

The psalmist beautifully expresses this truth:

6 Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 124:6-8

David was a man who knew God deeply. He experienced both great victories and intense trials. Yet through it all, he consistently recognized God as his refuge. Even in the most difficult circumstances, he trusted that the Lord was his deliverer.

This raises an important question for us: Do we respond the same way in our moments of difficulty? When we face challenges, do we immediately turn to God, or do we first seek other solutions?

David’s confidence was not based on his circumstances, but on his knowledge of God. He understood that God’s power does not change depending on what we face. God remains powerful, faithful, and present at all times.

The Power Behind Our Help

Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” This verse is deeply significant. It does not simply say that God helps us—it reminds us who this God is.

He is the Creator of heaven and earth. The One who formed the universe, who set the stars in place, who established the foundations of the world—that is the One who helps us.

This truth changes everything. If our help came from a limited source, we would have reason to fear. But our help comes from the infinite, sovereign, all-powerful God. There is no situation too difficult for Him, no problem too complex, and no enemy too strong.

When we understand who God is, our fear begins to fade. We realize that the One who is with us is greater than anything that stands against us. His power is not diminished by our circumstances. His strength does not run out. His faithfulness does not fail.

The Futility of False Refuges

Brothers, our God is powerful, and we must trust in Him. Let us not take shelter in other supposed refuges that ultimately fail. The world offers many alternatives—money, success, relationships, comfort—but none of these can provide true security.

False refuges may give temporary relief, but they cannot provide lasting peace. They may appear strong, but they will eventually fail. When the storms of life come, these foundations collapse, leaving us vulnerable and uncertain.

Only God is a true refuge. Only He can sustain us in every situation. Only He can deliver us from the deepest dangers. Only He can give us peace that remains even in the midst of chaos.

Trusting in God requires surrender. It means letting go of our reliance on other things and placing our full confidence in Him. This is not always easy, but it is always necessary.

Remembering God’s Faithfulness

One of the most powerful ways to remain faithful is to remember what God has already done. Memory strengthens faith. When we recall past deliverances, we gain confidence for present challenges.

The people of Israel were often instructed to remember God’s works. This was not just a historical exercise—it was a spiritual discipline. By remembering, they were reminded of God’s power, His faithfulness, and His covenant promises.

We must do the same. When we face uncertainty, we should look back and remember how God has been faithful. What He has done before, He can do again.

A Call to Trust and Dependence

I invite you to trust in God with all your heart. This is not a superficial trust, but a deep, unwavering confidence in who He is. It means trusting Him not only in moments of peace, but also in times of difficulty.

True trust is revealed in how we respond to challenges. When everything is going well, it is easy to say we trust God. But when things become uncertain, our true dependence is exposed.

Let us choose to trust Him fully. Let us remember His wonders, meditate on His past deliverances, and hold firmly to His promises. Let us reject the false refuges of this world and run to the One who never fails.

God Our Refuge Forever

He is our refuge today, tomorrow, and forever. He is our Rock, our salvation, and our strength. There is no other Savior but Jesus Christ, and to Him alone belongs all glory.

When everything else fails, He remains. When we feel weak, He is strong. When we are uncertain, He is faithful. He is the unshakable foundation upon which we can stand.

May we never forget who our God is. May we remain firm in Him, trusting that His help is sufficient for every need. And may our lives reflect the truth that our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

    1. John 14:1
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.”

      Roman 5:3-5
But we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Continue your faith, just believe. In Jesus name. Amen.

(Just keep on praying brothers and sisters, stand firm until the 2nd coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.)

It is pleasurable to the Father to listen to our prayers when they are made in the name of the Lord Jesus, His Son.

“And whatever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
    (John 14:13)

Nobody can ask the Lord trivial or vain things, like to make you rich, or to help you achieve a high position in society; and we cannot assume that the Lord will accept those petitions, just because they are made in Jesus’s name.

God’s Word teaches us that an overwhelmed person is comforted and helped by the Lord. The Lord hears our petitions and grants them sometimes in His due time.

In difficult times, when the Lord tests our faith, we can go to Him full of trust, and He will help us because, truly, as the psalmist confesses:
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
    Psalm 124:6-8

We are in the hands of the Lord, and we can be quiet and rest assured, even in difficulties: for He is our Father who loves us.
