The tomb is empty

While Christ was on this earth He spoke to His disciples that the Son of Man had to be crucified, but He also told them that on the third day He would be resurrected. While Christ was on the cross, some people said to Him: “He entrusted himself to God, now why does not His God save Him?” Christ suffered the reproach to free us from hell and sin, and His most tender words on that cross were: “Father forgive them because they do not know what they are doing”.

After having the three days of Christ dying on the cross passed, the Bible tells us that Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb and at that time there was a great earthquake. This earthquake was because an Angel of the Lord whose appearance was like lightning descended from heaven removed the stone from the grave. The guards who were at that place were perplexed by such a scenario. It was simply a moment worth admiring and it was the biggest scenario in the history of mankind: The King had risen, Christ had risen from the dead.

The Bible continues narrating:

5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

Matthew 28:5-6

The truth is that Christ had risen from the dead as He had said before, and that Christ rose from the dead is something great, death could not against Him, the earth could not keep Him, He rose with great glory He stood up, and no longer as a lamb that went to the cross, but as the King of the whole universe. There is no longer a Jude who delivers Him, nor a Pilato who washes his hands with presumed innocence, and there are no more those who say: “We want Barabbas, not Jesus.” Now He reigns with power and we give glory and honor to Him for ever.

You feel sad? Christ resurrected. Do you feel tired, without strength and that you can not anymore? The tomb is empty! May this be your motivation in the Christian life.

The resurrection of Christ is not simply an event to be remembered once a year; it is the very foundation of the Christian faith. Without the resurrection there would be no hope, no salvation, and no assurance of eternal life. His victory over death is the greatest demonstration that God’s promises are true, and that everything Christ taught carries eternal weight. The empty tomb is the confirmation that the power of darkness was defeated forever, and that all who believe in Him have the certainty of a new life.

When the angel spoke to the women, he not only announced the resurrection, but he also gave them a mission: to go quickly and share the news with the disciples. This is also a calling for us today. The resurrection is not a truth to be hidden, but a message to be proclaimed. It is the good news that transforms sadness into joy, weakness into strength, and despair into hope. If Christ lives, then everything He said is trustworthy, and every promise is secure in Him.

The resurrection reveals that no stone—no matter how heavy—can stop the plans of God. The stone was large, sealed, and guarded, yet none of this could prevent Christ from rising. In the same way, there are circumstances in our lives that seem immovable, moments when everything appears dark and lifeless. But the empty tomb reminds us that God can move any stone and bring life where there was only death. His power exceeds every obstacle, and His purposes always prevail.

As believers, we are called to walk in the power of that resurrection. This means living with the certainty that Christ is with us, that He intercedes for us, and that He strengthens us each day. His resurrection assures us that our struggles are not in vain and that, even in moments of trial, victory is already guaranteed in Him. If Christ conquered death, then He can also help us overcome fear, anxiety, temptation, and every adversity we face.

Therefore, let the empty tomb be your reminder that you are not alone, that God has not forgotten you, and that your story has hope. Christ lives, and because He lives, you can move forward. Lift your head, trust in His promises, and rest in the truth that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is working in your life today.

The Theological Significance of the Resurrection

To understand the depth of the empty tomb, we must delve into the theological implications of Christ’s victory. The resurrection is not merely a historical footnote; it is the cornerstone upon which the entire edifice of Christianity rests. Without it, the cross would be a tragedy, and Jesus would be just another martyr in the long history of human suffering. However, the fact that He rose confirms that His sacrifice was accepted by the Father as a complete payment for our sins.

The Confirmation of Christ’s Divinity

Throughout His ministry, Jesus made bold claims about His nature and His relationship with God. He stated that He and the Father were one and that He had the power to lay down His life and take it up again. The resurrection validates these claims. It proves that He was not just a great teacher or a prophet, but the incarnate Son of God. The power displayed in His return to life is the ultimate seal of approval on His identity. When we look at the risen Christ, we see the Lord of all creation who has triumphed over the physical and spiritual laws of this world.

The Justification of the Believer

In the writings of the Apostle Paul, we learn that Jesus was “delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” This means that the resurrection is the proof that our debt has been canceled. Imagine a court case where the defendant is released because the price has been paid in full; the resurrection is the receipt of that payment. Because He lives, we are declared righteous before a holy God. We no longer walk under the shadow of condemnation, but in the light of divine acceptance.

The Impact of the Resurrection on Human History

The event at the tomb changed the course of civilization. It transformed a group of frightened, hiding disciples into bold witnesses who were willing to face death for their message. This radical change cannot be explained by a myth or a collective hallucination. It required a physical, tangible encounter with the risen Lord. The historical reality of the resurrection is the only explanation for the rapid spread of the early church despite intense persecution.

Transformation of the Disciples

Consider Peter, who denied Christ three times out of fear. After the resurrection, he stood before the very leaders who crucified Jesus and boldly proclaimed His name. This shift from cowardice to courage is a testament to the power of the living Christ. Every disciple, except for John, suffered a martyr’s death. People do not die for what they know to be a lie. They died because they had seen, touched, and eaten with the risen Savior. Their testimony remains one of the strongest proofs of the empty tomb.

The Shift in Worship and Culture

The resurrection even changed the way people measured time and observed holy days. The early Jewish believers moved their primary day of worship from the Sabbath (Saturday) to the first day of the week (Sunday) to commemorate the day Christ rose. This was a massive cultural shift for a people deeply rooted in centuries of tradition. It highlights the magnitude of the event. Sunday became the “Lord’s Day”, a weekly celebration of the victory over the grave that continues globally to this day.

Living the Resurrection Life Today

Understanding the resurrection is one thing, but living in its power is another. Many Christians live as if Jesus is still in the tomb, burdened by guilt and defeated by circumstances. However, the “resurrection life” is a life of present power and future hope. It is the realization that the same Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead now dwells within every believer.

Victory Over Personal Sin

The resurrection means that sin no longer has dominion over us. We are not slaves to our past mistakes or our broken nature. Because Christ conquered the root of sin and death, He provides us with the grace to overcome our daily struggles. Walking in newness of life is possible because we serve a living Savior who provides active, daily strength. When we face temptation, we can rely on the victory Christ already secured on that third day.

Strength in Times of Suffering

Suffering is an inevitable part of the human experience, but for the believer, it is not the end of the story. The resurrection reminds us that God can bring life out of the darkest situations. Just as the darkness of Friday was followed by the light of Sunday, our current trials are temporary. The hope of the empty tomb gives us a perspective that transcends our immediate pain. We know that our “light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”

The Final Defeat of Death

Death is the great equalizer, the one thing that every human being fears. It represents the ultimate separation and the end of all earthly dreams. Yet, Christ has stripped death of its sting. By entering into death and coming out the other side, He has blazed a trail for all who follow Him. The resurrection is the first fruits of a greater harvest to come. It is the promise that we, too, will be raised with incorruptible bodies.

The Hope of the New Body

The Bible teaches that when Christ returns, our lowly bodies will be transformed to be like His glorious body. No more sickness, no more pain, no more decay. This physical hope is unique to Christianity. We do not look forward to a disembodied existence, but to a renewed creation where we will live in the presence of God. The resurrection of the body is the ultimate fulfillment of God’s plan to redeem the entire person—spirit, soul, and body.

The Assurance of Eternal Life

Because the tomb is empty, we have a concrete reason to believe in life after death. It is not wishful thinking or a vague philosophical idea. It is a historical certainty. Jesus said, “Because I live, you also will live.” This assurance changes how we face the end of our earthly journey. We do not grieve like those who have no hope; instead, we look forward to a reunion with our Creator and those who have gone before us in faith.

The Cosmic Scope of Christ’s Triumph

The resurrection is not just about individual salvation; it is about the restoration of the entire universe. The fall of man brought a curse upon the earth, leading to decay, violence, and disorder. Christ’s victory is the beginning of the reversal of that curse. He is making all things new. Through His resurrection, He has asserted His authority over every square inch of creation, claiming it back from the usurper.

The King on His Throne

We must recognize that the risen Christ is currently seated at the right hand of the Father. He is not a passive observer; He is the reigning King. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him. This means that no political power, no spiritual entity, and no earthly force can operate outside of His ultimate sovereignty. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and the resurrection was His inauguration ceremony.

The Restoration of All Things

The resurrection points toward a future where there will be no more tears, no more war, and no more injustice. It is the “down payment” on the new heavens and the new earth. Every time we see a life transformed by the Gospel, or an act of mercy that reflects God’s heart, we are seeing “resurrection glimpses.” We are called to be agents of this restoration, bringing the values of the kingdom of light into the kingdom of darkness.

Practical Implications for the Modern Believer

How do we apply the reality of the empty tomb in the 21st century? In a world of skepticism and digital noise, the message of the resurrection is more relevant than ever. It provides a foundation of truth in an age of relativism. The living Christ is the answer to the modern search for meaning and identity.

A Firm Foundation for Faith

Our faith is not based on feelings, which can change, but on a historical event. When doubts arise, we can go back to the evidence of the empty tomb. The facts of the resurrection provide a “reason for the hope that is in us.” This intellectual and spiritual anchor keeps us steady when the storms of life hit. We are not following cleverly devised fables, but the Truth Himself.

The Motivation for Evangelism

If we truly believe that Christ is alive and that He is the only way to the Father, we cannot remain silent. The urgency of the angel’s command to “go and tell” applies to us. Sharing the Gospel is an act of love; it is telling a starving world where to find bread. The resurrection gives us the confidence to speak, knowing that the message of the cross and the tomb has the power to save anyone who believes.

The Continuous Miracle of the Resurrection

In conclusion, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the central axis of human existence. It is the bridge between the finite and the infinite, the temporal and the eternal. It tells us that love is stronger than hate, that life is stronger than death, and that God’s light will always pierce the darkness. The King is alive, and His presence is available to you right now. No matter what “tomb” you find yourself in today—whether it be a tomb of depression, addiction, or grief—there is power available to bring you out into the light.

The guards could not stop Him, the stone could not hold Him, and the grave could not contain Him. This same invincible power is the birthright of every child of God. Do not live as if the tomb is still occupied. Celebrate the reality that the Lord has risen indeed! Let your life be a reflection of that empty tomb, characterized by joy, purpose, and an unshakable hope in the promises of the King of kings. The resurrection is our victory, our song, and our eternal destiny.

The Final Call to Confidence

Therefore, let us stand firm in the grace that has been given to us. The resurrection is the guarantee that our labor in the Lord is not in vain. Every prayer whispered, every act of kindness performed in His name, and every stand for truth is backed by the authority of the risen Christ. He has won the battle, and we are simply walking in the victory He has already established. Rest in this truth, be empowered by His Spirit, and walk boldly as a citizen of the kingdom that will never end. Christ is risen; He is risen indeed!

The joy of the Lord is your strength
Your labor in the Lord is not in vain

God, the Father, should not leave the soul of Jesus in hell neither he would not suffer his Holy One see corruption, as was prophesied.

Besides, it was necessary that Christ was resurrected to show the World he is God, the second person of the triune God, that we have not believed in a man who dies like other prophets or religious líders, as Buddha or Mohammed who died, but we believe in the only Begotten Son of the eternal Father, the Lord God almighty, who is living for ever more.

In fact, the tomb is empty

We have believed in the Lord Jesus, who by his death on the Calvary has justified us and made us adopted children of God.
    Jesus Christ..
