When we begin to read chapter 84 of the book of Psalms, we see that the Psalmist David begins to mention how great and strong our God is, affirming that He is his longing.
It is good and wonderful to see David exalting God in this way, giving Him all glory and praise for the good that He is, declaring that He is the only almighty God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
they are ever praising you.Psalm 84:4
Here we see that those who dwell in the house of God are blessed, because everything we have comes from Him, because He is the great, strong and powerful God, invincible and admirable.
Every day we must trust in God and deposit our souls before the Lord, and put our strength before Him, let us not forget that it is from Him that strength comes that sustains us every day, that, although we are going through difficulty He will not let us fall.
Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.Psalm 84:5
David made mention of each of these words, he had lived them, he said these things because he knew that everyone who walks in the straight ways of the Lord is blessed.
When we walk straight in His paths, overcoming all obstacles and placing all our strength in Him, God sustains us and cares for us, helps us to walk in a valley of shade, as it is written in Psalm 23 verse 4:
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.Psalm 23:4
Trust in God, because in Him we will be safe, only He gives us the peace and trust we need, let’s not forget that our strength comes from Him.
Psalm 84 is one of the most beautiful expressions of longing for God found in all of Scripture. It reveals a heart that does not merely seek blessings from God, but seeks God Himself as the blessing. David understood that the true joy of life was not found in earthly possessions, positions, or achievements, but in the presence of the Lord. To dwell near God was his greatest desire, his deepest pleasure, and his source of strength. This longing is what distinguishes a true worshiper—a soul that hungers for God above all else. When we cultivate this desire, our priorities change, our hearts soften, and our spirits are renewed. The more we experience communion with God, the more we realize that nothing in this world can compare to Him.
The psalmist also emphasizes that those who place their strength in God are truly blessed. Human strength fades, emotions fluctuate, and circumstances shift constantly, but God remains unchanging. When our confidence is rooted in Him, we are able to walk through trials without losing hope. The “pilgrimage” mentioned in Psalm 84:5 reminds us that the Christian life is a journey—a path filled with valleys and mountaintops, tears and triumphs. Yet those who walk with God do not walk alone. Even when the road is difficult, God transforms dry places into springs and deserts into wells of blessing. This is the testimony of every believer who has endured trials with faith: God proved Himself faithful at every step.
Just as David found comfort in the presence of God during dark valleys, we too can rest in the assurance that God walks beside us. He is our Shepherd, our refuge, and our guide. His rod protects us; His staff directs us. In the moments when fear tries to grip our hearts, His presence becomes our peace. No evil can stand against the God who watches over us. Therefore, let us draw near to Him daily, longing for Him as David did, trusting in His strength and depending on His promises. Blessed are those who make God their dwelling place; they will find joy, strength, and unshakable peace in Him.

When I struggle against my weakness in the body, I am tired, without strength, I feel downhearted, my soul is depressed, I have Spirit for nothing, then I remember the words of psalmist, when he writes:
“Blessed is the man whose strength is in you; in whose heart are the ways of them.”
Psalm 84:5
