The first thing we must ask ourselves is: What is the gospel? The Bible defines the Gospel as a message, and that message is about the life, death of the cross and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the good news that He died for our sins to give us salvation and that He comes once again to seek His holy church, and that message is truly a tremendous blessing.
The Foundation of the Apostolic Mission
The apostle Paul wrote to the Romans:
28 So after I have completed this task and have made sure that they have received this contribution, I will go to Spain and visit you on the way.
29 I know that when I come to you, I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ.
Romans 15:28-29
In the previous verses the apostle tells them about his desire to go to Rome, but first he had to finish some things. Now, the important thing that we should see here and the point that our focus should be is in verse 29 when Paul says to them: “I will come with an abundance of the blessing of the gospel of Christ“.
The abundance of the blessing of which Paul speaks is not related to material riches or earthly comforts. He refers to the spiritual wealth found in the person of Jesus Christ. For the early church, the gospel was the center of every activity, every prayer, and every journey. The apostle understood that his presence in Rome would be significant only if he carried with him the revelation of the cross. To preach the gospel is to offer the world the only solution to its greatest problem: the separation from God caused by sin. This message is characterized by its unchanging nature and its capacity to bring light to those who walk in darkness.
Divine Power Versus Human Wisdom
The apostle Paul also wrote:
1 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.
4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
1 Corinthians 2:1-5
The apostle Paul knew very well that the only message needed by the Gentiles and the church of Christ was the gospel message. There was not a more important message for him, that message was enough to penetrate the heart of humanity and change lives. In a culture like the Corinthian one, where rhetoric and philosophy were highly valued, Paul chose a path that seemed foolishness to the world. He understood that human intellect could convince the mind, but only the Spirit of God could regenerate the spirit. The sacrifice of Christ is the bridge between divinity and humanity, and its simplicity is what makes it universally accessible.
The Sufficiency of the Sacrifice of Christ
Today, many ministers prefer to leave this message aside because they understand that it is very old-fashioned and that methods must be found to attract souls. The truth is that for the apostles this message was sufficient and for us it must be the same, since no other message can change the life of a human being. The centrality of the cross must be restored in the modern pulpit. When we focus on secondary topics or contemporary trends, we run the risk of offering a “diluted gospel” that lacks the transformative power needed for true conversion. The blood of Jesus remains the only currency that pays the debt of sin.
Christ died for us and made us free by His precious blood on the cross, is not that message enough? The sufficiency of the gospel lies in its source: God Himself. We do not need to add or subtract anything from the work of Calvary. The redemptive plan was perfectly executed by the Son of God, and our role is to be faithful heralds of this eternal truth. The liberation from the yoke of sin is the greatest miracle a person can experience, and it happens only through the acceptance of the sacrifice of Christ.
The Responsibility of the Modern Church
Let us multiply the message of the Gospel and let us know that there is no more important message than this. The gospel remains the greatest treasure entrusted to the Church, and its power has not diminished with the passing of time. What transformed the hearts of men and women in the first century continues to transform lives today. The message of Christ crucified and risen contains a supernatural force that no human philosophy can imitate. Paul understood this deeply; he knew that eloquent speeches could impress the mind, but only the gospel could regenerate the soul.
That is why he resolved to preach Christ and Him crucified, refusing to mix the message with worldly wisdom. Every generation faces the temptation to alter the gospel to make it more appealing, more acceptable, or more fashionable, but the moment the message is changed, it ceases to be the gospel. The power of salvation resides exclusively in the original, unaltered message of the cross. The integrity of the doctrine is vital for the spiritual health of the believers and for the effectiveness of the Great Commission. We must resist the pressure to conform the truth of God to the opinions of a decadent world.
The Vitality of the Gospel in Human History
Throughout history, revivals have never been birthed by clever methods or emotional presentations, but by the faithful proclamation of the gospel. When the Church returns to the simplicity and purity of this message, hearts are awakened, repentance flows, and the Holy Spirit moves with power. The gospel does not need to be reinvented—it needs to be proclaimed with conviction, clarity, and dependence on God.
Sadly, many pulpits today have replaced the message of Christ with motivational speeches, self-help philosophies, or entertainment-driven strategies. While these things may draw crowds, they cannot produce new birth. Only the gospel confronts sin, offers forgiveness, and restores man’s relationship with God. Only the gospel reveals the depth of human depravity and the magnitude of divine grace. And only the gospel provides eternal hope beyond the grave. The evangelistic zeal of the early Christians should be our inspiration in these complex times.
The Internal Impact of the Word
When the Word of God is preached in its purity, it acts as a two-edged sword. It pierces the heart and exposes the hidden intentions of the soul. This is necessary because true repentance cannot occur without a deep conviction of sin. The gospel does not seek to make people feel better about their condition, but to transform that condition through the sanctifying work of the Spirit. The hope of glory is a reality that begins here and now, when the believer yields to the lordship of Christ. This spiritual renewal is the only thing that can fix the brokenness of society.
The grace of God is not a license to continue in sin, but the power to live a holy life. This is a fundamental part of the gospel message that is often overlooked. We are called to be witnesses of His light, reflecting the character of Christ in every aspect of our lives. The preaching of the cross must always be accompanied by a call to holiness and a total surrender to the will of the Father. This was the focus of the apostles, and it should be the focus of every true servant of God.
A Call to Unwavering Faithfulness
Therefore, it is our responsibility as believers to preserve, proclaim, and defend this glorious message. Whether through preaching, teaching, conversations, or personal testimony, the gospel must remain central to everything we do. We are not ambassadors of human opinions but messengers of the greatest news ever announced. Let us, then, embrace Paul’s attitude—coming not in our own wisdom, but in the power of the Spirit, trusting that God will use His message to accomplish His purpose.
May we never be ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe. And may this truth compel us to share it boldly, lovingly, and faithfully until Christ returns. The urgency of the task cannot be overstated. Millions of souls are still waiting to hear that there is hope, that there is forgiveness, and that there is a Saviour who loves them. We must be diligent in our service, making use of every opportunity to exalt the name of Jesus.
The Eternal Significance of Our Testimony
The testimony of a changed life is one of the most powerful tools in the hands of the believer. When people see the peace of God that surpasses all understanding operating in us, they are drawn to the source of that peace. The gospel is not just a theory to be debated, but a living reality to be experienced. We are called to be living epistles, read by all men, demonstrating the love of Christ in action. This requires a life of constant prayer and intimacy with the Lord, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our words and actions.
The perseverance of the saints is rooted in the certainty of the gospel. Even in the face of persecution or trial, the believer can remain firm because they know that their redemption is secure in Christ. The victory of the cross is our victory. We do not fight for victory, but from victory. This perspective changes how we face every challenge in life. The sovereignty of God and His infinite mercy are the pillars upon which our faith rests, and the gospel is the revelation of those divine attributes.
Restoring the Gospel in the Family and Society
The impact of the gospel must start in the home. Parents have the sacred duty of teaching the Word to their children, ensuring that the next generation knows the wonderful works of God. A family built on the foundation of the gospel is a light in a dark community. From the family, the influence of the Kingdom of God extends to every sphere of society—education, business, politics, and the arts. The gospel has the power to redeem culture and bring order where there is chaos, provided we do not compromise its truths.
The discipleship of the nations begins with the individual. When one person responds to the call of the gospel, a chain reaction of transformation is initiated. The Great Commission is not a suggestion, but a command that requires our total commitment. We must be willing to go where God sends us, whether it is to a neighboring street or to a distant land. The message of salvation is universal and transcends all cultural and linguistic barriers. There is no heart too hard that the grace of Jesus cannot soften.
Preparing for the Return of the King
The gospel also points us toward the future. We preach not only about the Christ who came, but about the Christ who is coming again. This blessed hope motivates us to live lives of purity and service. The return of our Lord is the culmination of the redemptive plan, and as His church, we must be ready. The proclamation of the gospel is the way we prepare the way for His coming. Every soul that is saved is another citizen for the Eternal Kingdom.
The judgment of God is a reality that makes the gospel even more urgent. Because God is holy and just, sin must be punished. The good news is that Jesus took that punishment upon Himself. By preaching the gospel, we are offering the way of escape and the gift of eternal life. This is the ultimate expression of love. Let us work while it is still day, for the night comes when no man can work. Our focus must remain on the glory of God and the salvation of the lost.
The Inexhaustible Wealth of the Word
The study of the gospel is an eternal journey. We can never fully grasp the heights and depths of the love of God revealed in Christ. The more we meditate on the Scriptures, the more we discover the wisdom of God. The gospel is simple enough for a child to understand, yet profound enough to challenge the greatest theologians. It is the bread of life that satisfies our spiritual hunger and the living water that quenches our thirst. Every time we open the Bible, we find new reasons to praise the Lord for His mercy.
The unity of the church is found in the gospel. Despite our differences in traditions or styles, we are one in Christ through the truth of the cross. This unity is a powerful testimony to the world. When the world sees believers loving one another and standing together for the defense of the gospel, they see the reality of God. We must protect this unity by keeping the message of Christ as our common ground. The gospel is the anchor of our souls in a changing world.
Conclusion of the Evangelical Calling
Finalizing our reflection, we must remember that the call to preach is for every believer. You don’t need a title to share what Jesus has done in your life. The simplicity of the gospel allows anyone who has been transformed to be a witness. The grace that saved us is the same grace that empowers us to speak. Let us be bold in our faith, knowing that the Lord is with us until the end of the age. The harvest is plentiful, and the time is now.
The legacy of the apostles is in our hands. They gave their lives to ensure that the gospel would reach us. Now, it is our turn to be faithful stewards of this divine mystery. Let us not be distracted by the vanities of this world, but let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. The gospel was, is, and will always be the power of God. Let us live it, preach it, and honor it with all that we are, for the glory of the Father and the expansion of His Kingdom on earth.

The blessing of the gospel
I quote:
“Christ died for us and made us free by His precious blood on the cross, is not that message enough?
Let us multiply the message of the Gospel and let us know that there is no more important message than this.”
I reply: Sure, but we ought to teach the Bible also. I suppose you know this perfectly, but I need to stress it.
The message of salvation is the more important theme in the Bible indeed, and it is important for us that have believed. However in the study of Holy Scripture we find other messages to teach, as God’s purpose of liberation of men by His Only begotten Son.
We need the knowledge of the Scripture to know God, as He is, and his plan of salvation for people who believe.
I think that without the knowledge of the Bible we could not preach the Gospel. The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy:
“And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15
