If you have read the book of Genesis you will realize that God created man in His image and likeness and gave him a commandment to stay on His path and not violate His commandments, but it was not so, the man did not fulfill the commandment of God, but he deviated and dragged with him all the humanity that was to come towards corruption. Did everything stay there? No! Well, God sent His only Son so that we would be redeemed from sin.
Beloved brothers, the truth is that when we guard ourselves from the world and its desires then we become blessed, happy people, admired people. And this is what God has called us, to turn away from the world and its desires, to study the Word of God and to go in prayer to know what the true way is in a world totally corrupted by sin. The world constantly invites us to follow its ideas, its pleasures and its temporary promises, but every one of those roads leads to emptiness. God, on the other hand, calls us to a much higher path: a life of holiness, discipline, devotion and wisdom. When we learn to distinguish between what is eternal and what is temporary, then we begin to experience true joy, because our heart rests not in things that fade but in the One who remains forever.
31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind.
32 “Now then, my children, listen to me;
blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 Listen to my instruction and be wise;
do not disregard it.
Proverbs 8:31-33
This chapter is dedicated to speaking about wisdom, but not about any kind of wisdom, but that which comes from above, that which brings men into true sanity, the one that guides us towards the true path that is Christ. This heavenly wisdom does not depend on human intelligence, academic recognition, age or social position. It is a gift from God given to the humble in heart, those who truly desire to follow His voice. Earthly wisdom can help us succeed in business, education or leadership, but spiritual wisdom shapes the heart, corrects character, teaches discernment and aligns our desires with the will of God. This is why Solomon insisted so much that we seek wisdom as one who searches for gold or precious stones.
There are men who think they are wise, but their wisdom is vanity, it is quickly destroyed and it does not illuminate them to take the correct path, nevertheless, the wisdom that comes from above, if we walk and we are attentive to that advice, which is the Word of God, then we will be considered as blessed men. If we keep this path we are truly blessed. The wisdom of this world exalts pride, teaches self-sufficiency and often blinds people to the reality of sin. But the wisdom from above softens the heart, breaks arrogance, and opens our eyes to the beauty of Christ. With it, we learn to choose righteousness over convenience, truth over lies, humility over pride, and obedience over rebellion. Every step guided by divine wisdom is a step that protects us, strengthens us, and keeps our feet from slipping.
It is my prayer to God to help us stand firm in the wisdom of this world, to help us to have a thought like Christ’s and that his strength be with us every day of our lives. May He keep us faithful in the midst of confusion, may He give us discernment to reject the false wisdom that appears so attractive, and may He give us courage to live according to His truth even when the rest of the world walks in the opposite direction. Let us ask the Lord daily to fill us with that wisdom that purifies, strengthens and transforms, because without it our decisions falter and our hearts wander. But with it, we walk securely, with peace, conviction and hope, knowing that every instruction of God guides us to life and keeps us on the path of blessing.
The Divine Purpose of Creation and the Weight of Disobedience
To understand our current state, we must look back at the origins described in the scriptures. When God created humanity, He did not do so without a plan or purpose. The image and likeness of God implanted in the first man, Adam, was a testament to the high calling we all share: to reflect His glory and walk in constant fellowship with Him. The commandment given in Eden was not a restriction of freedom, but a safeguard for the human soul. It was a boundary established by divine love to keep us connected to the source of all life. However, when man chose to prioritize his own curiosity and will over the Word of God, the direct consequence was a spiritual fracture that resonate through every generation.
This fall into sin was not merely a mistake; it was a rebellion against the sovereignty of the Creator. It introduced a nature of corruption that has clouded human judgment ever since. Without the intervention of God through His Son, humanity would be lost in a perpetual cycle of spiritual blindness. The redemptive work of Christ is, therefore, the restoration of that broken path. When we accept His sacrifice, we are not just forgiven, but we are also invited to rediscover the original intent of our creation. This requires a conscious effort to realign our lives with the biblical principles that were ignored in the beginning, allowing the Holy Spirit to reform our character according to the divine blueprint.
The Call to Spiritual Distinction and Sanctification
In an age where the boundaries between right and wrong are increasingly blurred, the call to sanctification is more urgent than ever. To “guard ourselves from the world” is a metaphor for spiritual vigilance. It means being selective about what we allow into our minds and hearts. The desires of the world—fame, power, and unbridled pleasure—are often disguised as progress, but they lead to the erosion of the soul. A blessed person is one who has developed the spiritual “immune system” necessary to reject these toxins. This distinction is what makes a believer admired and happy, not because they lack problems, but because they possess a peace that the world cannot give.
Achieving this state of holiness is not a matter of human effort alone, but of submission to the Word. By immersing ourselves in the scriptures, we begin to think God’s thoughts. This mental renewal is the foundation of a life of prayer. In the secret place of prayer, we receive the specific guidance needed to navigate a corrupted world. It is in these moments of divine intimacy that we learn the difference between what is “lawful” and what is “expedient.” The goal of our walk is to reach a level of spiritual maturity where our greatest desire is to please God, making His will our own and finding our complete satisfaction in His presence.
The Excellence of Heavenly Wisdom Over Earthly Knowledge
Proverbs 8 presents wisdom as a divine treasure that transcends time and space. While human knowledge accumulates facts and develops technologies, heavenly wisdom addresses the core of human existence. It is the wisdom that “rejoices in the habitable part of His earth” and finds delight in the children of men. This wisdom is essentially relational and moral. It teaches us how to live in harmony with God and our neighbors. To “keep His ways” is to acknowledge that the Creator knows the best way for the creation to function. When we ignore this instruction, we are not just being rebellious; we are being profoundly unwise, leading ourselves toward inevitable spiritual and emotional dysfunction.
The search for this wisdom must be the priority of every believer. It is not found in the philosophies of men or the changing opinions of society, but in the fear of the Lord. This “fear” is not a paralyzing terror, but a deep, reverent awe for God’s holiness and authority. From this reverence flows a discerning heart. This heart can see through the “thin content” of worldly promises and recognize the eternal weight of God’s truth. As we grow in this wisdom, we become more effective in our callings, more stable in our emotions, and more impactful in our witness to those who are still wandering in the darkness of vanity.
The Vanishing Nature of Worldly Vanity
There is a specific kind of arrogance that accompanies human wisdom when it is separated from God. It is a wisdom that exalts the “self” and promises a life of autonomy. However, the Bible labels this as vanity because it has no eternal substance. It is like a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. People who build their lives on their own intellectual prowess or social status often find themselves empty when faced with the ultimate questions of life and death. This temporary illumination cannot guide a person through the valley of the shadow of death, nor can it provide the moral clarity needed to overcome the temptations of the flesh.
In contrast, the wisdom from above is pure, peaceable, gentle, and full of good fruits. It illuminates the correct path with a light that grows brighter and brighter until the perfect day. When we are attentive to the Word of God, we are tapping into a source of knowledge that has been tested through the ages and found perfect. This wisdom humbles the proud but gives grace to the humble. It allows us to be “blessed men” even in the midst of poverty or persecution, because our internal reality is governed by the unchanging laws of the Kingdom. To walk in this path is to walk in truth and integrity, leaving a legacy that outlasts our time on this earth.
Developing the Mind of Christ through Discipline
The transformation of a believer’s life is directly linked to the renewal of the mind. To have a “thought like Christ’s” is the pinnacle of the Christian journey. This means that our reactions, motives, and perspectives are shaped by the Holy Spirit. It is a process of unlearning the toxic patterns of the world and learning the rhythms of grace. This requires a consistent spiritual discipline. We cannot expect to have the mind of Christ if we spend all our time consuming the mind of the world. We must be intentional about what we watch, what we read, and who we listen to. The strength of God is available to us, but it is often activated through our cooperation with His Spirit in these daily choices.
Furthermore, the mind of Christ is a mind of servant-leadership. It does not seek its own, but the things of others. It is a mind that chooses humility over self-promotion. By adopting this mindset, we become protected from the traps of offense and bitterness. We see trials as opportunities for growth and people as souls in need of a Savior. This divine perspective is what keeps us faithful in the midst of confusion. When the world says “take,” the mind of Christ says “give.” When the world says “retaliate,” it says “forgive.” This supernatural logic is what marks us as children of God and children of the light.
Standing Firm Against the Current of the Age
We live in a time of great spiritual and moral confusion. The “false wisdom” of our day often portrays the ways of God as outdated or restrictive. To live according to divine truth today requires a special kind of spiritual courage. It means being willing to be misunderstood, mocked, or even marginalized by a world that “walks in the opposite direction.” Standing firm is not about being argumentative or aggressive; it is about being steadfast in our convictions and radiant in our love. Our strength comes not from our own willpower, but from the daily filling of the Holy Spirit.
To maintain this firmness, we must ask the Lord daily for a fresh outpouring of His wisdom. This is a prayer that God loves to answer. He does not want us to be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine or social trend. He wants us to be anchored in the truth of Christ. As we remain faithful in the small things, God gives us the strength to remain faithful in the large ones. Our goal is to finish the race well, having kept the faith and having walked the path of blessing until the very end. The hope we have is not a wishful thought, but a certainty rooted in the character of God, who is faithful to complete the work He began in us.
The Role of Discernment in Modern Living
The complexity of the 21st century requires a high degree of spiritual discernment. Every decision we make—from our financial choices to our digital interactions—has a moral dimension. Discernment is the spiritual faculty that allows us to see the consequences of our actions before we take them. It is the ability to perceive the “spirit of the age” and reject its influence. Without discernment, even a sincere believer can be deceived by appearances. Therefore, we must cultivate a discerning spirit by constant exercise and reliance on the Holy Spirit. This involves testing everything against the authority of the Bible and seeking the counsel of mature brothers and sisters in the faith.
A life guided by discernment is a life of peace and security. It avoids the “shortcuts” that lead to destruction and chooses the “narrow gate” that leads to life. This divine guidance is especially important in our relationships and our service to the Lord. It helps us to identify the assignments from God and to say “no” to distractions that would steal our time and energy. When we walk with discernment, we are not easily manipulated by fear or greed. Instead, we are led by the still, small voice of God, which always leads us toward righteousness and peace. This is the practical application of heavenly wisdom in our daily walk.
The Fruit of a Life Governed by Divine Wisdom
A life lived in obedience to God’s commandments and in the pursuit of His wisdom will inevitably produce fruit. This fruit is not just for our benefit, but for the blessing of those around us. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are the natural outgrowths of a soul that is abiding in Christ. When we are “blessed,” we become a source of blessing. Our families are strengthened, our workplaces are influenced for good, and our communities see a living testimony of the power of God. This is the true definition of success in the eyes of the Creator.
As we conclude this exploration, we must remember that the path of wisdom is a lifelong journey. It is not a destination we reach overnight, but a daily walk of faith. Every instruction of God, every verse of scripture, and every nudge of the Holy Spirit is a gift designed for our protection and growth. Let us not be like the man who deviated from the commandment, but like the one who finds delight in the law of the Lord. By keeping His ways, we ensure that our lives are not lived in vain, but are part of the great redemptive story that God is writing through human history. Let us go forward with confidence and hope, knowing that the wisdom that comes from above will never fail us.
The promise of God is clear: those who seek Him will find Him, and those who find Him will find life and favor. This favor is the ultimate reward for the person who chooses divine wisdom over worldly vanity. May we be found faithful, wise, and filled with the light of Christ in all that we do. In a world of shadows, may we be the radiant examples of what it means to be truly blessed by the Creator of all things. Let us commit ourselves once again to the study of the Word, the practice of prayer, and the path of unwavering obedience, for in this is the fulfillment of our divine destiny.
Finally, brothers, let us keep our eyes fixed on the eternal goal. The struggles of this life are but for a moment, but the glory that awaits us is eternal. By walking in the wisdom of God today, we are preparing ourselves for the fullness of His presence tomorrow. Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap a harvest of blessing if we do not lose heart. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the wisdom of the Father guide us in every step, keeping us in the perfect way until we see Him face to face. Amen.

BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO KEEP MY WAYS
From old times people of Israel were exhorted to go in the ways of the Lord. Moses, Isaiah or other prophets were sent from God to preach to them, pleading with them to go in the way of Lord, for they went away following other idols of their neighbors’, other nations, who did not know the Lord God nor his Law.
“Why the Lord said, For as much as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men” (Isaiah 29:13)
The children of God in Israel, then did not listen to the Lord, nor did they obey, adore Him with all their heart. They were religious people, but they did not love God like he commanded them. They fulfilled prescriptions of masters of Synagogues, such as “do not eat, nor drink, nor walk”, or things like these. Besides they adored gods of gold or stone and gave them blood’s offerings.
Messengers were sent to request them to change of life, to come back to the Lord, but they did not listen to them. Afterwards the wrath of the Lord came against them, the enemies invaded the country, they were deported; droughts, or plagues came. The Lord God wanted to bring them to repentance, he wished they came closer to him because he is a merciful God.
He stretched out his arms and spoke to them.
God sent his own begotten Son, Jesus Christ to preach to them the Gospel of repentance. They despised him and they went on in rebellion and killed him.
He was publicly scorned and crucified.
Jesus said to them: “And you will not come to me, that you might have life.”. (John 5:40)
Jesus, the Lord, died to save those who keep his ways. Those who believe and wait on Him.
The Lord God says to people of the earth:
“Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.”Proverbs 8:32
Amen
