Why should we trust God? Because He is righteous, and teaches us the good way and helps us to move forward.
God shows us His truth, takes care of us, frees the captives, helps them to walk, gives them strength, helps them to overcome on their path. God is our strength, for which we must trust fully in Him.
Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us.
Psalm 4:6
Good question, the one who will show us good is called God, He who takes care of us, frees us, gives bread to the hungry, blesses them, in places of darkness turn on his light so that he can see and not fall into the bottom of a hole.
God is our help, He sees the evil and warns us so we do not stumble, His eyes are always on the earth, from the heavens He sees everything that is on earth, nothing escapes the Almighty God.
Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound.
Psalm 4:7
The psalmist David told of his great joy for the goodness of the Lord, He was being grateful to God for His great mercy, because the Lord did not leave him alone at any time, but blessed him and took care of all his adversaries.
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:8
But more than that the psalmist David could say that he slept peacefully and that nothing and nobody would bother him because his trust would keep him safe. How good when we are so trusting in the Lord, because His confidence will guide us every day to be calm.
Trusting in God is not merely a religious phrase or a poetic idea; it is the foundation of a life that walks in stability, peace, and hope. We trust Him because He has proven through history, through Scripture, and through our own experiences that He is worthy of that trust. From the dawn of creation, God has shown His care by sustaining the world, providing for humanity, and guiding His people through deserts, dangers, and seasons of uncertainty. He has never failed to fulfill a promise, never abandoned a soul that came to Him, and never acted unjustly. His righteousness is perfect, and His ways are always right. He teaches us, corrects us, protects us, and shows us the right path so we do not walk in confusion.
When David wrote Psalm 4, he was facing distress, enemies, and uncertainty, yet his confidence in God remained firm. He understood something powerful: the world asks, “Who will bring us good?” but the believer knows the answer—the Lord Himself. God is the One who shines His light on us, guiding us through valleys, guarding us from unseen dangers, and giving us reasons to rejoice even when circumstances are difficult. His light is not only illumination; it is comfort, rescue, and direction.
God’s care is practical and constant. The hungry are fed, the broken-hearted are healed, the captives are freed, and the weary receive strength. These truths are echoed throughout the Scriptures. Whether it was Elijah receiving food in the desert, Israel walking through the Red Sea, Daniel protected from the lions, or Paul rescued from persecution, God has always acted with power and compassion. And He does the same for us today, sometimes in ways we do not immediately see.
The psalmist also teaches us that joy, true joy, comes from God alone. Not from possessions, success, comfort, or human approval. Those things may give temporary satisfaction, but lasting joy flows from the presence and blessing of God. David rejoiced when others prospered because his heart was anchored not in circumstances but in the goodness of the Lord. When God fills the heart, joy overflows beyond the limitations of external conditions.
And then David concludes with one of the most beautiful declarations in Scripture: “In peace I will lie down and sleep.” This kind of peace is supernatural. Not everyone rests well at night. Many are tormented by anxiety, guilt, or fear. Many lie down with heavy burdens or uncertain hopes. But the child of God has a place of refuge—a God who guards his rest. David slept peacefully because he knew that God was in control, that no enemy could bypass the protection of the Almighty, and that nothing could separate him from the care of the Lord.
This is the same peace available to every believer today. When we trust God fully, we find rest for our minds and hearts. We face challenges with courage, we walk through storms with hope, and we lie down each night confident that the God who watches over the universe also watches over us.
