When we turn to God to ask for something, we must do it very carefully because we can easily sin against Him with our attitudes or our words. Many people, when they are desperate because of a problem, a sickness, a family situation, or a financial burden, begin to question God and wonder why He has not answered them yet. This attitude reveals the struggle of the human heart: we want immediate relief, but God works according to His perfect timing.
The attitude we should have when we go before God is one of humility and patience. This prevents us from falling into frustration or speaking in a way that dishonors the Lord. When impatience controls the heart, it becomes easy to doubt God’s goodness and even easier to complain against Him. That is why the believer must cultivate self-control, recognizing that waiting on God is a spiritual discipline and a demonstration of trust.
When you ask God for something, He will always respond at the right time. His delays are not denials; they are divine preparations. God will not place upon your shoulders a burden that you cannot bear, for He knows your strength, your limits, and your heart better than you do. He allows moments of waiting so that you may grow, mature, and become spiritually stronger and more resistant to the trials that come your way.
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Matthew 7:8
This verse is a tremendous promise, yet many overlook the attitude required to receive its blessing. Asking must be accompanied by faith, seeking must be guided by perseverance, and knocking must be done with reverence and submission. God is not obligated to answer a heart full of complaints, but He delights in responding to a heart that waits with confidence and humility.
Despair will always come as a temptation. It will whisper that God has forgotten you, that your prayers are useless, or that the situation will never change. Despair tries to push you into sinning against God, either by doubting His character or by speaking harshly against His will. But if you overcome that despair and keep your eyes on the Lord, the outcome will be far better than anything you could have achieved through impatience or anger.
That is why, when you ask God, you will receive—not merely because you prayed, but because you approached Him with a spirit of humility and patience. When you seek Him with a sincere heart, you will find Him because your search is guided by calmness, trust, and genuine love for the Lord. And when you knock on His door, He will open it, for your knock was not one of rebellion or frustration, but one of meekness, dependence, and faith.
Those who know how to wait on God experience peace even before the answer arrives. They understand that God does not ignore prayers; He prepares answers. He forms character during the waiting, molds the heart, teaches contentment, and strengthens faith. Waiting is not inactivity—it is obedience. It is choosing to believe that God is working behind the scenes even when everything seems silent.
You will receive because you knew how to wait on the Lord without questioning His decisions or accusing Him of abandoning you. You will receive because your heart remained aligned with His will. You will receive because, instead of giving in to despair, you surrendered your situation to God and trusted His process.
So, trust Him. Trust His timing, even when it feels slow. Trust His wisdom, even when you do not understand His ways. Trust His love, even when the circumstances seem contrary. God never arrives late; He arrives perfectly. Wait for His time, and everything—absolutely everything—will come according to His will and for your good.
