A blessing that does not add sadness with it

The blessing of the Lord brings true joy because it comes from God Himself, and what He gives is pure, wise, and good for the soul. When we learn to walk before Him with humility and integrity, we discover that riches, honor and life are not found in evil gain, but in the fear of the Lord.

Many people think that blessing is only related to money, possessions, opportunities, or visible success. But the blessing of God is much deeper than material abundance. A person may have many things and still live with sorrow, guilt, fear, and unrest. Another person may have less outwardly, yet enjoy peace, gratitude, contentment, and a clean conscience before God. This teaches us that the true blessing of the Lord cannot be measured only by what the hands possess, but by what the heart receives from Him.

When God gives, He gives with wisdom. His blessings do not destroy the soul, corrupt the heart, or fill the conscience with torment. What comes from Him may require responsibility, stewardship, humility, and faithfulness, but it does not come wrapped in the sorrow that accompanies sin. The blessing of the Lord enriches life without adding the misery that comes from unrighteousness.

The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

Proverbs 10:22

The blessing of the Lord brings true richness

Proverbs 10:22 teaches us that the blessing of the Lord “maketh rich,” and that He adds no sorrow with it. This verse does not mean that every godly person will become materially wealthy, nor does it teach that the Christian life will be free from suffering. Rather, it teaches that what God gives is truly good, spiritually sound, and free from the destructive sorrow that comes from sinfully obtained gain.

There is a richness that cannot be counted in coins. There is the richness of peace with God, the richness of a quiet conscience, the richness of wisdom, the richness of contentment, the richness of family restored, the richness of spiritual growth, and the richness of living under the favor and care of the Lord. These blessings may not always impress the world, but they are precious before God.

The world often defines wealth as having more, owning more, and being admired by more people. But Scripture teaches us to look deeper. What good is abundance if the heart is troubled? What value is success if it was gained by injustice? What joy can possessions bring if they are accompanied by fear, guilt, and spiritual emptiness? A person can gain much outwardly and still be poor before God.

The blessing of God makes the soul richer. It teaches us to receive what He gives with gratitude and to use it with righteousness. It keeps us from becoming slaves of greed. It reminds us that everything we have belongs first to the Lord, and that the greatest treasure is not what we hold in our hands, but the God who holds us in His.

What does not come from God can become sorrow

We should not think that the blessings given by God will keep us in sadness. God does not bless His children in order to destroy them. However, when a person obtains something through evil, deceit, manipulation, theft, injustice, or oppression, that gain often becomes a heavy burden. What was desired as pleasure can become a headache. What was gained quickly can become a source of fear. What looked like success can become the seed of destruction.

Many people have not realized that what is received through evil cannot be truly enjoyed. A person may have money, but no peace. He may have possessions, but no rest. He may have recognition, but no joy. He may appear successful before others, but inside he carries the weight of a troubled conscience. This is why Scripture warns us again and again that dishonest gain never produces the blessing of God.

Ill-gotten gain is unstable. It may enter the hands quickly, but it does not bring lasting satisfaction. Just as it came through unrighteousness, it may also disappear through trouble, judgment, fear, or loss. God does not delight when people harm others to obtain what they want. He does not approve of taking away what others have earned with effort. He is righteous, and He calls His people to walk in righteousness.

This is why integrity matters so much. The person who wants to enjoy what he has must first care about how he obtained it. What is gained with honesty may be small, but it can be received with peace. What is gained through evil may be large, but it brings sorrow. It is better to have little with a clean conscience than much with a heart full of guilt.

The fool treats evil as entertainment

It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

Proverbs 10:23

The next verse gives us a clear contrast. For the fool, doing evil is like sport. He does not tremble before sin. He does not weigh the damage he causes. He treats mischief as entertainment, as something light, as if evil were a game without consequences. This reveals the deep disorder of his heart.

A fool may laugh while hurting others. He may enjoy deceiving, manipulating, stealing, or creating conflict. He may celebrate what should make him repent. But Scripture teaches that this kind of behavior is not wisdom; it is blindness. A person who enjoys evil has lost sight of the holiness of God and the dignity of his neighbor.

The man of understanding is different. He does not act with evil intention against his neighbor. He does not seek to become master of what does not belong to him. He does not rejoice in fraud, oppression, or injustice. Instead, he fears God and understands that every action has consequences before the Lord.

Wisdom teaches us to choose what is right even when it is difficult. It helps us discern between quick gain and lasting peace, between sinful opportunity and righteous patience. This is why the believer must value the benefits of wisdom, because wisdom from God teaches the heart to reject evil and walk in what is pleasing to Him.

True understanding produces careful living

A person of understanding does not live carelessly. He knows that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. He understands that life must be lived before the eyes of God. He does not ask only, “Can I get this?” but also, “Does this please the Lord?” He does not ask only, “Will this benefit me?” but also, “Is this righteous before God?”

This kind of careful living is necessary because the heart can easily justify sin when it desires something strongly. A person may convince himself that a dishonest action is acceptable because he needs money, recognition, or advancement. But need does not make sin holy. Pressure does not make injustice acceptable. Desire does not give permission to disobey God.

The wise person understands that God sees not only the result, but also the process. The Lord sees how something was obtained, what motives were involved, what people were affected, and whether truth or deceit governed the action. Men may praise the outcome, but God judges the heart. The path matters as much as the possession.

This is why believers must be careful in business, work, family matters, ministry, and every area of life. We must not imitate the methods of the wicked in order to gain what they gain. The Lord calls His people to a different path: the path of truth, justice, patience, contentment, and integrity.

The fear of the wicked will come upon him

The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

Proverbs 10:24

Proverbs 10:24 shows another contrast between the wicked and the righteous. The wicked live with fears that eventually come upon them. They may appear confident, but rebellion against God produces inner insecurity. They fear exposure, loss, judgment, consequences, and the collapse of what they built on sin. Even when they seem strong, their foundation is weak.

Those who live doing evil often try to destroy what belongs to the righteous. They envy, scheme, accuse, manipulate, and seek to bring down those who walk uprightly. But Scripture teaches that the wicked will not ultimately triumph. Their own path leads them toward the very destruction they fear. The evil they plan for others often becomes a snare to their own souls.

This does not mean that judgment always appears immediately. Sometimes the wicked prosper for a season. Sometimes injustice seems to advance. Sometimes those who do evil appear to escape consequences. But God is not blind. His justice is not asleep. The fear of the wicked will come upon him in God’s time and according to God’s wisdom.

For this reason, the believer must not envy evil men. Their success is temporary, their joy is unstable, and their path is dangerous. Scripture warns us clearly, don’t be envious of evil men, because their gain is not worth the loss of peace, righteousness, and fellowship with God.

The desire of the righteous shall be granted

The second part of Proverbs 10:24 gives comfort: “but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.” This does not mean that God gives every passing wish or every selfish desire. The righteous person is one whose heart is being shaped by the will of God. His desires are being purified. He longs for what honors the Lord, what is just, what is true, and what produces spiritual good.

God delights to answer desires that are aligned with His will. The righteous desire peace with God, wisdom, holiness, provision according to God’s purpose, justice, spiritual fruit, and faithfulness. These desires are not rooted in greed but in devotion. The Lord knows how to grant what is truly good for His children.

Sometimes God grants by giving exactly what was requested. Other times He grants by giving something better than what we asked. Sometimes He delays because He is forming patience. Sometimes He withholds because He is protecting us. But in every case, the righteous can trust that the Lord is good and that His blessing never comes with the sorrow attached to sin.

The righteous do not need to steal what God can provide in His time. They do not need to manipulate what God can open honestly. They do not need to compromise for what the Lord can give with peace. Waiting on God may require patience, but it saves the soul from the sorrow that comes through unrighteous gain.

Integrity allows us to enjoy God’s blessings with peace

When we speak about the blessings of the Lord, we are referring to something much deeper than simple material goods. A blessing from God includes peace, joy, stability, spiritual growth, wisdom, contentment, and the satisfaction that comes from walking in His will. These things cannot be purchased by human effort alone. They are gifts that come from the heart of God.

A person who walks in integrity can enjoy what God gives without fear. He does not have to hide the origin of his gain. He does not have to live afraid that someone will expose him. He does not have to silence his conscience. He can receive what God provides and say, “The Lord has been good.” This is a great blessing.

Integrity does not mean that life will be easy or that every desire will be fulfilled immediately. But integrity gives stability. It protects the heart from many sorrows that come through deception. It allows the believer to sleep with peace because he knows he has not gained by harming others. A clean conscience is a treasure that dishonest gain can never buy.

This is why Scripture repeatedly calls believers to walk uprightly. The person who walks in integrity does not depend on tricks, lies, or oppression. He depends on the Lord. He believes that God can bless honest work, faithful obedience, and patient endurance. Truly, whoever walks in integrity walks securely, because his path is guarded by truth.

Let us receive only what comes from the Lord

Every believer should examine not only what he desires, but also how he seeks to obtain it. The world often says that the end justifies the means, but Scripture teaches otherwise. God is concerned with both the goal and the path. He does not want His children to receive blessings through evil methods. What comes from God will never require us to sin in order to receive it.

If something demands dishonesty, oppression, manipulation, or disobedience, it is not a blessing from the Lord. It may look profitable, but it carries sorrow. It may bring temporary increase, but it weakens the soul. It may impress others, but it does not please God. The Christian must have the courage to reject any gain that requires compromise.

Let us therefore wait on the Lord. Let us work with honesty, serve with humility, give with generosity, and receive with gratitude. Let us not envy the wicked or imitate their methods. Let us not confuse material increase with divine approval. The true blessing is what God gives, in God’s time, through God’s way, for God’s glory.

The blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow with it. This is the path of peace. It may not always look fast, impressive, or celebrated by the world, but it is safe before God. Let us choose wisdom over foolishness, integrity over dishonest gain, righteousness over evil, and the blessing of the Lord over every treasure that comes with sorrow.

  1. A blessing that does not add sadness with it
The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
    Proverbs 10:24
In our daily behaviour with others we ought to take care whether our actions are agreeable to the Lord or not. If we are going to buy something, for instance, from those people who are selling goods which they show stretched out on the floor. It is important for us to reject those things if we suspect they may come from an evil source, stolen things or those of suspicious origin. The reason is that God is Holy and he does not like illegal things or evil things as far as we can tell. I think those things shall not be useful for us. At least they may be not good for me so that I’ll be blessed by them.
People who do not work properly are fearful to be punished, the Word tells us they shall be punished.
Those who want to please the Lord shall be blessed and if we need or wish good things for us or others they shall be granted by the Lord.
May the Lord God give us wisdom to do His will in our day-to-day lives.

  2. “The learned and wise man does not act with bad intention against their neighbor, nor can become master of what does not belong to them.”

These words written by the Minister whom belong this commentary are true and it must be recognized.
