God’s eyes are everywhere

Proverbs, a book that undoubtedly teaches us to reason, think with sanity, talk about morals, but above all be guided by the Word of God. This book also teaches us how God’s eyes are looking at both good and bad, and it is good that we know this, that God’s eyes are on all flesh. The proverbist taught:

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Proverbs 15:3

We all see the evil that is in this world, which is constantly growing, and that makes one think of the natural man or of the one who does not know God or His Word, that God is not looking at any of that. It is very common to hear phrases such as: “If God existed, this would not happen,” or “Where is God when injustice reigns?” These are questions born from human limitation, from a heart that does not yet understand the sovereignty and patience of God.

Sometimes we as spiritual ones also ask ourselves the question: Where is God? Even men like Habakkuk asked themselves the same question when they saw how the nation of Judah sinned and did not receive their payment. Habakkuk cried out because the violence and corruption multiplied, and it seemed as if God remained silent. Yet God reminded the prophet that He sees everything and that justice would come at the appointed time. This story shows us that even the most faithful sometimes struggle to understand God’s timing.

The truth is that the eyes of God are everywhere, that He rules on His throne from heaven and judges the sons of men in His time. God is not distant, nor distracted, nor indifferent. His gaze is perfect, penetrating, and eternal. He sees everything simultaneously—what we do in public and what we do in secret. Nothing escapes His sight, neither the works of the wicked nor the efforts of the righteous. Every tear, every injustice, every sincere act of kindness, every hidden sin—God sees them all.

With this verse it is also good to point out that God is looking at all the works we do, that there is nothing that can be hidden from the eyes of God. This truth should bring comfort and also holy fear. Comfort, because God sees the faithfulness we show even when no one else notices. He sees the sacrifices made in silence, the prayers prayed in solitude, the battles fought in the heart. God never overlooks the good that His children do, even if the world never applauds it.

But this truth should also bring holy fear, because no matter how much we think we are doing something wrong in the most hidden place and that no one is seeing, then, right there, the mighty God is watching you. The darkness may cover the eyes of men, but it can never cover the eyes of God. The rooms where secrets are kept, the corners where sin hides, the thoughts that no one else hears—God observes them clearly.

Knowing this truth should move us to integrity. A believer should not live only to appear righteous before others but to be righteous before God. When we remember that God sees everything, even the intentions of the heart, we live in a way that honors Him. We seek holiness not to impress people but to please the One whose eyes are always upon us.

At the same time, this verse encourages us not to despair when we see injustice or evil. God is not blind to the suffering of His children. He is not unaware of corruption, violence, or wickedness. Everything is recorded before Him, and in His perfect time He will judge. The righteous Judge never forgets, and His justice will never fail.

So let us walk with reverence, humility, and trust. God sees us, knows us, and sustains us. His eyes are everywhere, and His presence is our greatest assurance.

Oh Lord, You are my law and my guide
God is just and merciful
