The Bible speaks clearly about that day in which we will meet with our heavenly Father, and we should not think that day is far, on the contrary, we do not know the day or the hour, but this event will pass and we must be prepared.
We have already seen many signs that Jesus Himself announced and we must stand fast and ready for when that day surprises us, it will be in the blink of an eye.
But we must also keep in mind that many have left this world and are already sleeping waiting for that great day to be raised by our Lord Jesus.
On that day, those who died in Christ will be raised and then those who are alive will be raised. That is why we must be prepared, live our lives of repentance, so that when this day comes, we will be raised.
This biblical truth should awaken in us a deep sense of spiritual responsibility. Knowing that we will one day stand before God should lead us to examine our lives daily, to evaluate our conduct, our thoughts, and our intentions. Preparation for that great day is not something that happens overnight, but a continuous process of growth, obedience, and surrender to God.
Many believers mistakenly think that preparation only refers to the future, but in reality it affects our present. The way we live today reflects what we believe about eternity. If we truly believe that Christ will return, our priorities will change, our values will be aligned with the Word of God, and our decisions will be guided by faith rather than fear or worldly desires.
The Bible teaches us that this life is temporary and fragile. Everything we see will pass away, but the Word of God remains forever. That is why it is so important to build our lives on a firm foundation, which is Christ. When our hope is placed in Him, we can face the future with confidence, knowing that our destiny is secure in His hands.
Jesus Himself repeatedly spoke about His return and the need to remain vigilant. He warned against spiritual sleepiness, against allowing routine, comfort, or sin to dull our sensitivity to the things of God. A vigilant believer is one who prays, studies the Scriptures, and seeks to live according to God’s will.
In Luke we find Jesus is talking about this event of the coming of the Lord:
For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
Luke 17:24
This comparison with lightning teaches us that the coming of Christ will be sudden and unmistakable. No one will need to announce it or explain it, because it will be evident to all. This reality reminds us that there will be no opportunity to make last-minute changes. Our hearts must already be aligned with God before that moment arrives.
Living prepared does not mean living in fear, but in hope. The believer does not fear the return of Christ, but longs for it. It is the blessed hope of the Church, the moment when suffering will end, tears will be wiped away, and justice will finally be established by God Himself.
Repentance plays a central role in this preparation. Repentance is not only turning away from sin, but also turning toward God with sincerity and humility. It is a daily decision to allow God to shape our character, to correct our paths, and to renew our hearts.
We must also understand that while we wait for that day, God has entrusted us with a mission. We are called to share the gospel, to be light in the midst of darkness, and to reflect the love of Christ through our actions. Waiting for the Lord does not mean inactivity, but faithful service.
Difficult days will come, trials and persecutions may arise, but the Lord promises to strengthen those who trust in Him. When we remain in communion with God, prayer becomes our refuge, and His Word becomes our guide. In this way, we can remain firm even in the midst of adversity.
It will be a wonderful day and we want to go with the Lord when this happens. So, let us pray and maintain communion in the Lord, stand fast, asking for strength from the Lord, so that we can resist in bad days, so that God helps us and we can see Him when He comes to look for His beloved church.
May this hope inspire us to live holy, faithful, and committed lives. Let us not grow weary, let us not be distracted, but let us persevere until the end, trusting that the One who promised is faithful and will surely fulfill His Word.
