Do this prayer when you are afflicted

It is normal to go through afflictions and dense darkness that leads us to be tired and burdened, it is also normal to cry at those times, which we think we will never leave them, however, we must understand that if we are in the Lord’s powerful hands, nothing can be difficult enough to make our faith faint.

The experience of pain, sorrow, or confusion is an unavoidable reality in earthly life. Acknowledging this normality is the first step to avoid feeling isolated. Nevertheless, our faith lifts us above despair. Knowing that the architect of the universe, the one who sustains all things with His power, holds us firmly, is the anchor that prevents the ship of our lives from sinking in any storm. His sovereignty is the refuge of our soul. This knowledge allows us to look beyond the current difficulty toward eternal victory.

We learn in the Bible from countless men and women that by faith God gave them the victory to overcome their worst fears or their worst enemies, God never abandoned any of them and we have that faithful promise that Jesus would be with us until the end:

Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matthew 28:20

The Lord’s promise to be with us “always, even to the end of the age” is not conditioned on our mood or the absence of problems. It is a declaration of perpetual presence. He is with us at the peak of joy, but also in the valley of the shadow of death. Consider Joseph, who was sold by his brothers, falsely accused, and imprisoned, yet the Scripture states: “But the Lord was with Joseph” (Genesis 39:2). Or the prophet Daniel, who, despite being thrown into the lions’ den for his faithfulness, was preserved because the presence of God accompanied him in the place of his greatest danger. These examples are pillars that support our confidence: Christ’s companionship is not passive, but active, sustaining, and protective.

Are you very distressed today, so that you feel imprisoned and feel that this time you will not be able to get out of this situation? I remind you that Christ has promised to be with you every day until the end, is there better company than that? We can not be in better hands than in those of our Beloved and Lord Jesus Christ, in Him we are safe and we can rest even in the saddest scene of our lives.

When the weight of the world seems to rest on our shoulders, prayer becomes our lifeline. It is not about reciting empty words, but a deep act of surrender and honesty before the Creator. The Psalms, in particular, are a testament to how men of faith cried out to God with brutal transparency, without hiding their pain, frustration, or impatience. They teach us that it is valid to question, plead, and pour out our hearts before the One who formed us and knows our fragility perfectly.

On one occasion the psalmist prayed in the midst of his affliction and this day we ask you to accompany the psalmist to say these beautiful words to our Lord Jesus Christ:

1 O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure.

2 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am weak; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are troubled.

3 My soul also is greatly troubled; But You, O Lord—how long?

4 Return, O Lord, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake!

5 For in death there is no remembrance of You; In the grave who will give You thanks?

6 I am weary with my groaning; [b]All night I make my bed swim; I drench my couch with my tears.

7 My eye wastes away because of grief; It grows old because of all my enemies.

8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.

9 The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will receive my prayer.

10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled; Let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.

Psalm 6:1-10

It is important that we have done this prayer with faith, remember that certainly the Lord is not far from us, because we live in Him and He dwells in us. Faith does not eliminate the trial, but it gives it purpose. The pain we experience today is not in vain. The Bible teaches us that the trial of our faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:6-7). Afflictions are the divine crucible that refines our character, removes impurities, and molds us into the image of His Son.

This perspective transforms complaint into hope and fear into perseverance. At the end of the process, the faith that emerges is stronger, deeper, and more anchored in the unchangeableness of God. Let nothing weaken our faith, because those afflictions that we are going through today are to make our faith more precious than gold. Stand firm in the promise of His unwavering presence.

Those who sow with tears will rejoice
Defeating the giant that makes you war!
