Rich in mercy

What does it truly mean to be rich? Many think first of money, possessions, or social status, but the greatest wealth is found in the mercy of God. This treasure is greater than anything this world can offer, because it comes from the Lord Himself.

A person can be rich in many ways. Some are rich in knowledge, others in influence, others in opportunities, and many are called rich because they possess great material wealth. But Scripture teaches us that there is a wealth far better than money: mercy. This mercy does not originate in human beings, but in God. You may say, “But I have seen many people show mercy to others.” That is true, but we must understand that mercy, in its purest and highest form, belongs to God. He is the source of mercy, and in His infinite love, He moves others to show mercy as a reflection of His own character.

This truth leads us to think deeply about how divine mercy differs from the limited compassion human beings can express. People can feel sympathy, show kindness, or help someone in need, but our mercy often depends on circumstances, emotions, or personal interest. God’s mercy, however, flows from His perfect nature. It is holy, pure, constant, and faithful. It does not depend on who we are, but on who He is. This makes the mercy of God the greatest wealth available to humanity, a treasure that cannot be measured or compared with earthly riches.

The Bible speaks about the sublime and inexhaustible mercy of God from beginning to end. The apostle Paul said:

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,

5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness

These verses highlight the mercy and love that God has had for us. What greater love exists than that a father gives his son as a sacrifice to save people? The love of God is the greatest that has existed and exists, there is no love that can overcome His great love. His mercy is greater than the wide sea and has no end.

When we reflect on these words, we must remember that human beings were spiritually dead, incapable of saving themselves, and without the strength to return to God. Yet, in His infinite mercy, God chose to give us life through Christ. This act of grace reveals the depth of His compassion. He did not wait for us to improve ourselves or become worthy. Instead, He acted first, reaching us in our condition of spiritual poverty, lifting us up, and giving us access to a new life filled with hope.

We were dead in our transgressions and sins, and God did not leave us in that dark condition. He sent His only Son as the perfect ransom for our salvation. There is no greater act of mercy than what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. The cross is the clearest demonstration that the Father is rich in mercy, because there He gave what was most precious in order to rescue those who could not rescue themselves.

The mercy of God continues every day

Furthermore, divine mercy is not only something God demonstrated in the past; it is something He continues to show in the present. The mercy of God was revealed gloriously at the cross of Christ, but it has not stopped working in the lives of His children. Every day, His compassion sustains us, forgives us, restores us, and renews us. Even when we fail, when we fall short, or when our hearts feel weak, His mercy remains faithful. This should fill our hearts with profound gratitude and assurance, knowing that our Heavenly Father does not abandon the work of His hands. The same God who began His good work in us is powerful and faithful to carry it until the end.

Many times we think about mercy only as something that happened when God saved us, and certainly salvation is the greatest demonstration of His mercy. We were dead in our sins, unable to save ourselves, and without strength to return to God. Yet He gave us life in Christ. But after saving us, the Lord did not leave us alone. His mercy continues to accompany us in our daily walk. It is because of His mercy that we can rise again after failure, continue after discouragement, and find hope after seasons of sadness. We can truly say that we are saved according to His mercy, and we are also sustained by that same mercy every day.

This daily mercy is seen in countless ways. It is seen when God gives us strength for a new day. It is seen when He keeps us from dangers we never noticed. It is seen when He corrects us before we go too far from His path. It is seen when He forgives us after sincere repentance. It is seen when He comforts the heart that feels tired and reminds us that we still belong to Him. God’s mercy is not occasional; it is constant. It is not weak; it is powerful. It is not shallow emotion; it is holy compassion flowing from the heart of our Father.

God’s mercy sustains us in weakness

Are you feeling sad? Are you waiting for a miracle? Are you passing through a season where your strength seems small and your burdens feel too heavy? I want to remind you that the greatest reason for joy in our lives is that Christ loves us as no one else can love us, and that the Father is rich in mercy. The believer’s hope does not depend on perfect circumstances. It depends on the faithful character of God. He has promised to be with His people until the end, and His presence is greater than any difficulty we may face.

There are moments when sadness makes us feel forgotten. There are days when prayer seems difficult, when the heart is tired, and when the future feels uncertain. But even in those moments, God remains near. His mercy does not disappear because our emotions change. His love is not cancelled by our weakness. His care does not become smaller when the process becomes longer. The Lord knows how to sustain His children in hidden places, in silent battles, and in tears that no one else sees.

This is why the Christian must learn to rest in the mercy of God more than in personal strength. Our strength changes, but His mercy remains. Our feelings rise and fall, but His promises stand firm. Our understanding is limited, but His wisdom is perfect. When we feel weak, we must not run away from God; we must run to Him. He is not surprised by our condition. He already knows our frame, our needs, our fears, and our limitations. In His mercy, He receives the brokenhearted and gives grace to the humble.

The mercy of God also teaches us to stop pretending. We do not need to come before the Lord as if we had everything under control. We can come honestly, confessing our weakness and asking for help. The Lord does not despise the prayer of a sincere heart. He hears, He strengthens, and He restores. This is why the believer can live with confidence, knowing that God will keep in complete peace the one who trusts in Him.

Mercy gives us new opportunities

For this reason, no matter how difficult the situation before you may be, remember that you are sustained by a God whose mercy has no limit. His love is not conditioned by circumstances, and His care does not weaken over time. He walks with you, strengthens you, restores you, and gives you new opportunities each day. True richness is found in knowing that the Creator of the universe looks upon you with compassion and calls you His beloved.

Every new day is a testimony of mercy. The fact that we can breathe, pray, repent, learn, serve, and begin again is evidence that God has not abandoned us. Many people see a new day as something ordinary, but the believer should see it as a gift. If God has allowed us to continue, then there is still purpose. There is still grace. There is still room to grow, to obey, to forgive, to seek Him, and to walk in His ways.

Sometimes we fail and think that our failure is the end of the story. But the mercy of God teaches us that repentance opens the door to restoration. God does not excuse sin, but He does forgive the repentant sinner. He does not call us to remain in darkness, but He lifts us and leads us back to the path of life. His mercy is not permission to continue in sin; it is the power that brings us back to Him with humility and gratitude.

This mercy should also transform how we treat others. If God has been patient with us, we should learn patience. If God has forgiven us, we should forgive. If God has restored us, we should not rejoice in the fall of another person. Mercy received should become mercy reflected. A heart touched by grace becomes more compassionate, more humble, and more willing to serve. In this way, the life of the believer becomes a testimony that God is gracious and compassionate.

Conclusion

May your heart rest confidently in this truth: God is rich in mercy. Because of His mercy, you can face life with hope, assurance, and joy. His mercy is greater than your weakness, greater than your failures, and greater than every burden you carry. There is no treasure in this world that can compare with the mercy of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Money can disappear, health can weaken, people can fail, and circumstances can change, but the mercy of the Lord remains firm forever.

Let us give thanks to the Lord for His incomparable love. He found us dead in sin, made us alive with Christ, raised us up by grace, and gave us a hope that will never perish. Blessed be the God who is rich in mercy, because His mercy is the greatest treasure we could ever receive. Let us live every day with gratitude, humility, and faith, remembering that our salvation, our strength, and our future are all held by the hands of a merciful God. This is why our hearts can continue to praise Him and remember the mercy of God, which sustains us today and will remain forever.

  1. Rich in mercy

The Lord God, our Father, loved us in a way we can not understand, his love brought him to gave his only beloved Son, in whom he is well pleased. The evangelist Matthew tells us: “And see a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us. Even when we were dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ, (by grace you are saved;)”
    Ephesians 2:4-5

So does our heavenly father loved us more than his own beloved Son? He did not mind to give his Son to be sacrificed instead of all the people who were cast down in Hell for ever.

We are not able to value, as is due such an action from the Creator of all things: He shows his love for us that even when we were dead in sins, Christ died for us. And he has quickened us together with him in a way that, as Christ lives, those who believe in him, we, that have believed in him, also live. I can cry out: “I live oh Lord, because you live.. I go to Heaven, I go to your Glory because oh Lord you gave me the victory.”

We are saved by the grace of God, a gift we don’t deserve in any way, but He is pleased to give us a portion in his kingdom. By his love, since we did not do anything to be pardoned: Our blessed saviour, Jesus made it all, he paid for our debts. He died for us and he rose from dead to our justification.

May the Lord God be praised for ever, and Jesus Christ, his Son whom he has sent to bless us for ever more. Thank you, oh almighty, loved God!
