God and riches

Today we see that people have more love for money than for God, remember that the love of money is the root of all evil, but it is good that we understand that all these things will pass.

In the book of Ecclesiastes we see that Solomon exhorts on vanities, saying that everything is vanity and that everything that is under the sun is vanity, leaving us told that all this will pass, and that is why we should not love more material than to God.

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Matthew 6:24

Jesus exhorted on riches by saying that no man could serve two masters at the same time, how can we interpret these words spoken by the Lord? He taught people that riches could cause a division or become a god.

When man is full of vanity and only thinks of his riches, he may even have at least his loved ones or other people around him, because at that very moment riches become a god for him.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
1 Timothy 6:10

And it is for this reason that Jesus says that no one can serve two masters at the same time, because he will love one and hate the other, this is very true, because we have to choose which one to serve, but we know that behind all these things that are vanity and that are transient that have blind man is satan, which provides everything so that man can not serve God, so that he deviates after the vain things of this world.

The Bible constantly calls us to reflect on what truly matters, reminding us that life is fragile and temporary. Wealth, fame, possessions, and positions can disappear in a single moment, but what we sow for eternity remains forever. When Solomon spoke of vanity, he was not merely pointing out that material things are useless, but rather that they cannot sustain the human soul. They do not fill the heart nor give purpose, and much less can they replace God. This is why the human being, despite achieving riches, often continues feeling empty.

Christ’s message was not to condemn wealth itself, but to warn us of the danger of placing our trust in it. Riches can be a blessing when used properly, but they become a curse when they dominate a person’s heart. A person who allows greed to root itself within begins to lose the ability to be generous, compassionate, and humble. The heart becomes hardened, and the voice of God is slowly silenced by the noise of ambition.

We must also recognize that the enemy knows how easily the human heart can be seduced. Satan does not always attack through fear or violence; at times he tempts with comfort, prosperity, and the illusion of independence. He makes people believe that money can provide the security that only God can give. But as soon as trust shifts from God to material things, the spiritual foundation begins to collapse. The pursuit of wealth at any cost leads many to compromise their values, step away from the faith, and even destroy important relationships.

However, God’s Word invites us to live with a balanced heart, understanding that everything we possess comes from His hand. When we see riches as tools and not as masters, we can use them for good and honor God with them. The problem is not the possession of riches, but when riches possess us. Jesus Himself taught that where our treasure is, there our heart will also be, reminding us that our priorities reveal who truly reigns within us.

Therefore, we must examine ourselves daily. What occupies our thoughts? What motivates our decisions? What gives us security? If the answer is money or material stability, then we must realign our hearts. Only God can give true peace, purpose, and fulfillment. Everything else is temporary and fragile. Choosing God as our master is choosing life, joy, and eternal reward.

Do everything for the Lord, not for men
The joy of the Lord is your strength
