If we start reading chapter 8 of the book of Psalms we will find David praising and glorifying God for all His wonders, everything He has created, everything He has done on earth, the fish of the sea, the stars and everything what exists around us.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,Psalm 8:3
When we see the heavens, the earth, the trees when they move, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, how can we say that there is no God? Even seeing their wonders we become ignorant and say that everything came out of nothing.
Only one is the creator of all things, all we see was created with His hands, God is real, and that is why the psalmist David cheers God with joy exalting His name forever and ever.
What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?Psalm 8:4
We can never believe that the glory belongs to us, because God does not share His glory with men, but He manifested His glory and made it visible to all through His wonders and everything created by Him.
But we can also see that God honors man, and in what way God honors man, He does it when He recognizes him and when He gives him His love.
You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.Psalm 8:5
Let us remember that the psalmist David, before being king, was a shepherd of sheeps, but he never thought that God had chosen him to be king, and it is for this reason that he finds himself and sees everything created and the beauty made by almighty God.
Psalm 8 reminds us that the greatness of God is not only seen in the vastness of the heavens but also in the intimate care He has for humanity. David, being a simple shepherd at the beginning of his life, often spent nights contemplating the sky. Those moments of solitude allowed him to meditate deeply on the greatness of the Creator. This same sense of awe is what he expresses here: the contrast between the immensity of creation and the smallness of human beings, and yet the incredible value that God has given to each one of us.
It is astonishing that the God who created galaxies, oceans, and mountains also cares about our lives, our struggles, and even our thoughts. David voices a profound question that still resonates today: how can the Creator of the universe be mindful of fragile, imperfect beings like us? And yet Scripture affirms that God loves us with eternal love and that His gaze is always upon His children. This truth should fill our hearts with humility and gratitude.
The psalm also invites us to reflect on the purpose for which God has crowned humanity with glory and honor. This distinction does not exalt man above his Creator but rather establishes the responsibility that God has entrusted to him. We have been appointed as caretakers of creation, administrators of what God has formed with His hands. This role is a privilege, but it also carries a great responsibility: to live in obedience, acknowledging that everything belongs to the Lord.
Furthermore, when David expresses admiration for God’s works, he teaches us that worship is more than words—it is a posture of the heart. Observing creation should lead us to recognize God’s sovereignty and to respond with praise. Nature speaks of His power and His wisdom, and every detail reminds us that nothing is accidental. Everything that exists has a purpose and reflects the order established by God.
As believers, we should learn to take moments of reflection just as David did. In the midst of our daily routines, we often forget to stop and contemplate God’s greatness. Yet, when we do so, our faith is strengthened, our worries diminish, and our perspective changes. Creation itself becomes a silent sermon that points us to the One who holds the universe in His hands.
Finally, Psalm 8 teaches us that although we are small compared to the vastness of creation, we are deeply loved by God. He chose to honor us, care for us, and give us a place within His divine plan. Just as He lifted David from shepherd to king, He is also capable of lifting our lives and guiding us toward His perfect purpose. This chapter invites us to acknowledge His greatness and at the same time His tender care, reminding us that the Creator of all things knows us by name.
