We must be fervent in what we have believed and abide in the doctrine of Christ and the apostles. This is why every believer must understand the value of sound doctrine, because the Christian life cannot be sustained by emotions, personal opinions, or new revelations, but by the eternal Word of God.
The great question is: What is the doctrine of Christ? The doctrine of Christ is not a hidden message reserved for a few, nor is it a private interpretation that changes from generation to generation. The doctrine of Christ is found in His Word: the Bible. In Scripture we find everything necessary to know God, to understand salvation, to walk in obedience, to resist deception, and to live a correct Christian life before the Lord.
We do not need another way, another gospel, or a supposed new revelation given by someone who claims to have a higher spiritual knowledge. The Word of God is enough. In it we are sustained, corrected, strengthened, instructed, and preserved. When the believer understands this, he does not run after every voice that appears with attractive words, but remains firm in the truth that has already been revealed by God.
The doctrine of Christ is found in His Word
The Bible speaks clearly about remaining in the doctrine of Christ. The apostle John wrote with great seriousness about this matter, because doctrine is not something secondary or unimportant. Many people today treat doctrine as if it were merely a theological detail, but Scripture presents it as a matter of spiritual life, truth, and communion with God.
9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them.
11 Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.
2 John 1:9-11
These words are direct and solemn. John says that whoever does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God. This means that doctrine is not a decorative element of the Christian faith; it is part of the foundation upon which the believer stands. A person may speak beautifully about spiritual matters, may use religious language, may appear humble and kind, but if that person does not remain in the teaching of Christ, he is not walking in the truth.
This is why the church must be careful. We cannot measure truth by popularity, emotion, appearance, or charisma. We must measure everything by the Scriptures. The doctrine of Christ is not subject to the desires of the human heart. It does not change because society changes. It does not adapt itself to the sinful preferences of the age. The truth of Christ remains firm because it comes from God, and God does not change.
The Word of God is sufficient for the believer
God has called us to be persevering in the doctrine of His Word, and this perseverance is achieved by reading, studying, meditating on, and obeying the Scriptures. A Christian who does not know the Bible is exposed to every wind of doctrine. He may be sincere, but sincerity without truth can still be deceived. The believer must be rooted in Scripture, because through it we come to know the will of God, which is good, holy, perfect, and necessary for our daily walk.
The Bible is not an incomplete book. It is not a weak foundation that needs to be improved by human invention. It is the inspired Word of God, profitable for teaching, correction, reproof, and instruction in righteousness. When the believer opens the Scriptures with reverence, he is not merely reading ancient words; he is receiving divine instruction that exposes the heart, renews the mind, and directs the steps of those who fear the Lord.
For this reason, we must value the usefulness of the Scriptures in every area of the Christian life. Scripture teaches us who God is, who we are, what sin has done, what Christ has accomplished, how salvation is received, how the church must live, and how we must wait for the return of our Lord. Nothing is missing from the Word of God for the spiritual instruction of His people.
Many errors enter the church when believers begin to think that the Bible is not enough. Some want dreams to have more authority than Scripture. Others want prophecies, visions, emotional experiences, or private revelations to guide their lives more than the written Word. But the mature Christian understands that every experience must be examined under the light of Scripture, because only the Word of God is infallible, pure, and fully trustworthy.
False doctrine must be rejected with seriousness
On the other hand, there are people who come teaching a doctrine totally different from the one expressed in the Bible. The apostles gave many warnings about this, and we must take those warnings seriously in order to avoid the falsehoods of this century. False doctrine is dangerous because it rarely presents itself openly as rebellion against God. It often comes dressed in attractive words, emotional promises, and spiritual appearance.
False teachers may speak of love, grace, faith, prosperity, power, or freedom, but they empty those words of their biblical meaning. They may mention the name of Christ, but present a Christ different from the Christ revealed in Scripture. They may quote the Bible, but twist its meaning. They may promise blessings, but lead people away from repentance, holiness, obedience, and the fear of God. This is why discernment is necessary.
The church must remember that not every person who speaks about God speaks from God. Not every message that sounds spiritual is biblical. Not every gathering that uses Christian language honors Christ. The apostle John says that if someone does not bring the doctrine of Christ, believers must not welcome that teaching or give it spiritual approval. This is not a lack of love; it is fidelity to God and protection for the flock.
The danger of false teachers is something Scripture repeatedly warns us about, and the believer must not be careless before it. There are teachings that destroy, confuse, weaken, and corrupt. This is why we must be alert when hearing any message that minimizes sin, denies the authority of Scripture, changes the gospel, rejects the divinity of Christ, removes the need for repentance, or exalts man above God. The Bible already warns us about false prophets and false teachers, and those warnings are still necessary today.
Discernment comes through faithful study of Scripture
We should never be part of erroneous teachings, but we must remember something very important: the only way to recognize false doctrine is by being faithful students of what the Bible says. A believer who does not study Scripture cannot easily identify error. He may reject obvious lies, but subtle distortions can deceive him because they are mixed with fragments of truth. False doctrine is most dangerous when it sounds almost biblical.
This is why the Christian must not depend only on what others say. It is good to listen to faithful preaching, to read helpful books, and to receive instruction from mature believers, but none of these things should replace personal devotion to the Word of God. Every believer has the responsibility to examine the Scriptures, to grow in knowledge, and to ask the Lord for understanding. We must not be passive listeners, but diligent disciples.
Discernment is not born from suspicion, pride, or a desire to argue. True discernment is born from love for God and love for His truth. The believer who loves Christ wants to know what Christ has taught. The believer who loves the church wants to protect it from harmful teaching. The believer who loves the lost does not want them to be deceived by a false gospel that cannot save.
When we study Scripture, the Holy Spirit shapes our understanding and teaches us to recognize the voice of the Shepherd. A sheep that knows the voice of Christ will not easily follow the voice of strangers. But this recognition grows through constant exposure to the Word. The more we know the truth, the clearer error becomes. The more we delight in Scripture, the less attractive falsehood appears.
Remaining in the doctrine of Christ requires humility
To remain in the doctrine of Christ, we need humility. The proud heart wants to invent, modify, and control truth. The humble heart receives what God has spoken. Many people fall into error because they are not willing to submit their thoughts to the Word of God. They want a doctrine that agrees with their desires, comforts their sin, or gives them religious importance. But the true disciple bows before Scripture, even when Scripture confronts him.
Humility teaches us to say: “Lord, let Your Word correct me.” This attitude is necessary because the Bible not only comforts us; it also exposes us. It reveals our motives, rebukes our disobedience, corrects our wrong thinking, and calls us back to the path of righteousness. A believer who only wants comforting verses but rejects correction has not understood the purpose of Scripture. God’s Word heals, but it also cuts. It encourages, but it also disciplines.
The doctrine of Christ leads us to worship, obedience, repentance, love, holiness, and perseverance. It does not produce arrogance in the believer, but reverence. It does not lead us to boast in knowledge, but to submit more deeply to the Lord. Sound doctrine is not cold information stored in the mind; it is truth that transforms the whole life. A person who truly abides in the doctrine of Christ will show it in his conduct, priorities, speech, and love for God.
The truth of God does not change with the times
We live in a time where many people want a Christianity without firm doctrine, without biblical boundaries, and without uncomfortable truths. Some want a gospel that speaks of blessings but not repentance, of love but not holiness, of grace but not obedience, of Christ as Savior but not as Lord. Yet the Bible does not allow us to separate what God has joined together. Christ saves, but He also reigns. Christ forgives, but He also calls us to follow Him.
The truth of God does not need to be modernized. It needs to be believed, preached, defended, and obeyed. The church must not be ashamed of the teaching of Christ. If the apostles warned believers to remain in the doctrine, then we must not treat doctrine as something optional. If John says that whoever does not continue in the teaching does not have God, then we must speak about doctrine with the seriousness that Scripture gives it.
This does not mean that believers should become harsh, loveless, or proud. On the contrary, truth must be spoken with humility, patience, and love. But love without truth becomes sentimentality, and truth without love becomes severity. The Christian must hold both together. We must love people enough to tell them the truth, and we must love God enough not to change His Word in order to please people.
The Word of God has endured through generations, persecutions, false teachers, empires, philosophies, and cultural changes. Men rise and fall, movements appear and disappear, but the Word of the Lord remains forever. This should fill us with confidence. We are not building our faith on something fragile, temporary, or uncertain. We stand upon the eternal truth of God. Therefore, let us treasure the Word of our God that endures forever, because it is the sure foundation for the people of the Lord.
Let us remain firm in the doctrine of Christ
I urge you to study the Word of God so that we are not deceived by false doctrines. Let us not be lazy with Scripture. Let us not depend only on what we hear from others. Let us open the Bible with reverence, pray for understanding, and examine everything under its light. A believer who studies the Word is not easily moved by emotional manipulation, popular trends, or religious deception.
The importance of remaining grounded in the doctrine of Christ cannot be overstated, especially in a time when so many voices rise with teachings that sound appealing but lack biblical foundation. Throughout history, the church has faced countless attempts to distort or add to the message of Scripture, yet the call of God has always been the same: hold fast to the truth. The truth of God does not evolve with culture, nor does it bend to the philosophies of the modern age.
When believers anchor themselves deeply in Scripture, they develop discernment. They begin to recognize what is faithful to Christ and what deviates from His teaching. This discernment is a precious gift in a world saturated with confusion. John’s warning is not merely theoretical; it is deeply practical. There will always be individuals who present themselves as spiritual guides, prophets, or enlightened teachers, yet their message is disconnected from apostolic truth.
They may speak with passion, eloquence, or charisma, but if their doctrine does not align with Christ’s teaching, it must be rejected. The apostle’s instruction not to welcome such people is not a call to cruelty, but a call to spiritual protection. To give approval to false teachers is to become complicit in their deception, enabling them to spread teachings that harm the church. True love for God includes protecting the purity of His truth, just as a shepherd protects the flock from wolves.
Persevering in sound doctrine is not merely an intellectual exercise; it is a spiritual safeguard. When we immerse ourselves in the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit enlightens our understanding, strengthens our convictions, and aligns our hearts with the will of God. This steady commitment shapes our character, influences our decisions, and guards us from subtle distortions that can lead us astray.
Let us, therefore, be diligent students of the Word, seeking not only to understand it but also to live it daily. In doing so, we walk in the light of Christ, remain anchored to the faith once delivered to the saints, and honor the God who entrusted His truth to us. May the Lord keep us firm, faithful, humble, and unmovable in His holy doctrine, until the day when we see Christ face to face and rejoice forever in the truth that saved us.

Abide in the Doctrine of Christ
=========================
I need the doctrine of God, I need the Holy Scriptures, the Bible of the Lord.
Our soul wishes to know God’s Word.
In a materialistic world where everybody is ruled by Internet teachings, the advances of science are important from people’s point of view, but men and women have a soul. “My soul has thirsts for God, for the living God”, Says the psalmist.
And I see that people, besides physical things, need spiritual things also, so they look for teachings of witches, fortune-tellers, yoga and other oriental philosophies, instead of seeking the Bible, the teachings from the doctrine of Christ, and abide by and love it.
The impression I have got is that even a big number of the people of God is not going to the Bible willingly. They prefer to gather for biblical meetings where they sing nice hymns and there is little learning of God’s Word.
We need to feed our soul with the doctrine of Christ.
We need to read the Bible and pray everyday. We have a lot of things to do: jobs, family care, every day…
“But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all your works” Psalm 73:28
Like the psalmist, we ought to wish to be near God to learn of Him in His Holy Word.
The apostle Paul tells us that the word of Christ should dwell in us richly… and glorify the Lord with psalms and hymns with grace in our heart, too.
Do not forget the knowledge of Christ’s Word.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”. Colossians 3:16
Oh yes thank you so much. Indeed Jesus is the bread of Life. His word must be our daily bread.I thank God for these teachings
