His ears are always ready to hear the cry of His children. The Lord does not reject their prayers, but He listens to them and responds at the right time, for God has control of all things. This is one of the sweetest comforts the believer can have in times of trouble: we do not pray into emptiness, nor do we speak into a silent universe governed by chance. We speak to the living God, the One who sees, knows, and rules over every detail of our lives. If you want to continue meditating on this same subject, you can also read A Just God, Who Hears the Prayer of the Righteous.
Sometimes people say, “I cried out to the Lord, but He has not answered me.” This feeling is common in seasons of waiting, pain, and confusion. Yet it is good that every day we learn to understand the will of God more deeply. He hears the prayer of the righteous and keeps them from their adversaries. Many times we confuse silence with absence, but God’s silence is never abandonment. The Scriptures show us again and again that the Lord listens even when we do not immediately see the result of our petitions.
He sees our tears, our struggles, our fears, and the secret cries of the heart that no one else hears. We may not understand His timing, but we must trust that the Lord acts at the perfect time, because His timing is higher, wiser, and purer than ours. A delayed answer is not necessarily a denied answer. Very often it is part of God’s wise and holy way of teaching us to trust Him more deeply.
I cried out to him with my mouth;
his praise was on my tongue.Psalm 66:17
Prayer and Praise Belong Together
This verse is beautiful because it shows us something vital about true prayer: the psalmist cried out to God, but praise was also on his tongue. In other words, his prayer was not merely a list of complaints. It was a cry wrapped in reverence. It was supplication joined with worship. This teaches us that the heart that truly seeks God does not only ask, but also adores. It does not only bring need, but also acknowledges who God is.
Every day we must bless and glorify the name of God, exalt His name forever and ever. He is the One who sustains us at all times and helps us. In the most difficult moments of our lives, He is there. Sometimes we lose sight of this reality, especially when worries cloud our minds or when pain becomes overwhelming, but God remains faithful. When we walk through deserts, He walks with us. When battles surround us, He becomes our shield. When fear rises, He becomes our confidence.
This is why praising God must be a constant practice, not something we do only when everything is going well. It is relatively easy to praise in abundance, but faith matures when praise continues even in affliction. A heart that praises God in trouble is declaring that the Lord is still worthy, still wise, still good, and still sovereign, even when life feels heavy. That kind of praise is not superficial. It rises out of trust.
Prayer and praise therefore belong together. When we pray without praise, we can become self-focused and consumed only with our problem. But when prayer is joined with praise, the soul is lifted upward. It remembers the greatness of God. It remembers His past faithfulness. It remembers that our circumstances are not bigger than the One to whom we pray. This does not remove pain instantly, but it gives pain the right context: beneath the rule of God.
God Hears Even When We Do Not Yet See
One of the most difficult lessons for believers is learning that God hears immediately even when He does not answer immediately. We tend to think in short distances. We want quick clarity, quick relief, and quick solutions. But the Lord often works in ways that require patience, trust, and perseverance. He listens at once, yet He may answer in a way or at a time that stretches our faith.
This is why we must be careful not to interpret delay as neglect. God is never inattentive to the cries of His children. He is never distracted, never overwhelmed, never unsure of what to do. His answers are governed by perfect wisdom. Sometimes He answers by granting what we ask. Sometimes He answers by withholding what would harm us. Sometimes He answers by changing our heart before He changes our situation. And sometimes He answers by giving us strength to endure until His appointed time comes.
Many biblical saints knew what it was to wait. David waited. Hannah waited. Elijah waited. The prophets waited. The church has waited through many centuries. Yet in all these things, the people of God learned that waiting on the Lord is never wasted. The delay itself often becomes part of His gracious work in us. It exposes impatience. It deepens dependence. It teaches surrender. It humbles self-will. It draws us to prayer more constantly.
That is why another fitting internal meditation for this article is When You Ask God, Wait on Him. Waiting is not the absence of God’s work. Very often, it is the place where His work is most deeply taking root in the soul.
Prayer Must Rise from a Sincere Heart
Our supplications should be directed with all our heart to Almighty God. There are situations in life that will lead us to cry out to Him with all our being, asking Him to listen to our prayers every day. God does not ignore the sincere cry of His children. Even when we lack words, the Holy Spirit helps us. Even when confusion blinds us, the Lord is working behind the scenes. Prayer connects us to His strength and reminds our hearts that we are not alone in any circumstance.
At the same time, Scripture also teaches us that prayer is not a magical act in itself. It is not the mere movement of lips that pleases God. The Lord looks at the heart. He sees whether there is sincerity, humility, reverence, repentance, and faith. This is important because many people think that saying religious words is enough. But the Bible constantly directs us to something deeper: a true heart before God.
If I had cherished sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened;Psalm 66:18
This verse is solemn. It reminds us that cherished sin disrupts communion with God. The problem is not that God lacks mercy, but that sin hardens the heart and clouds spiritual clarity. A person cannot cling to iniquity, defend it, nourish it, and then expect to enjoy unhindered fellowship with the Lord. Hidden rebellion affects prayer. Tolerated wickedness weakens spiritual life. This is why the believer must continually examine his heart before God.
Yet this truth should not drive us to despair, but to repentance. The same Lord who exposes sin is the Lord who forgives those who humble themselves. Everyone who turns away from evil and seeks God with a repentant spirit finds a compassionate Father who listens carefully. The moment the sinner bows low before Him, the Lord is ready to forgive, restore, and teach His ways. God delights in those who abandon wickedness and seek Him with sincerity.
Repentance Clears the Way for Communion
One reason prayer sometimes feels dry or distant is that the heart has allowed something to remain there that should have been confessed and forsaken. The psalmist understood this well. He knew that a divided heart cannot enjoy the sweetness of free communion with God. Therefore, repentance is not a side issue in the life of prayer. It is essential. A clean conscience before God, maintained by confession and grace, is one of the great helps to a living prayer life.
This does not mean believers become sinless in this life. It means they become honest. They do not protect sin. They do not excuse it. They do not make peace with it. Instead, they bring it into the light, confess it, and ask the Lord for mercy and cleansing. The believer who walks this way learns something very precious: God is not waiting for an excuse to reject him. He is ready to restore the broken and the humbled.
The enemy knows this too, which is why he often tries to fill the mind with condemnation, confusion, and spiritual discouragement. He wants the believer either to cherish sin or to despair because of it. But the gospel shows a better way. We are called neither to defend sin nor to drown in hopelessness, but to run to God through Christ with repentance and faith. There, the heart finds both cleansing and renewed confidence to pray.
A related internal article that fits naturally here is Listen to My Prayer, Lord, because it reinforces the cry of a soul that seeks the Lord sincerely and urgently.
God Has Surely Heard
but God has surely listened
and has heard my prayer.Psalm 66:19
What confidence shines in this verse. The psalmist does not end in uncertainty, but in assurance: “God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.” This is where the believer must often bring his heart. Not to the arrogance of demanding a specific outcome, but to the confidence that the Lord has truly heard. There is a great difference between claiming control over God and resting in the certainty that He listens.
That is why sincerity toward God must dwell in our hearts. Everything that seeks to corrupt the mind, poison trust, or pull us away from the good path should be resisted. The enemy is always attentive, looking for ways to discourage, confuse, and weaken the believer’s confidence. His aim is to make prayer seem useless, praise seem empty, and waiting seem unbearable. But before those thoughts take root, cry out to God. Fill your mouth not with endless complaint, but with praise and faith. Lift your hands not in despair, but in dependence.
Let your heart remember that the Lord listens even when you feel broken, tired, or overwhelmed. He listens when words come easily, and He listens when tears speak more than sentences. He listens when the burden is fresh, and He listens when you have been carrying it for a long time. The believer’s confidence is not in the perfection of his prayer, but in the mercy of the God who hears it.
God Answers According to His Perfect Will
God listens to prayer offered in humility, faith, and sincerity. And when He listens, He acts. Sometimes He answers by opening doors. Sometimes by closing them. Sometimes by removing the burden. Sometimes by giving strength to endure it. Sometimes by changing the situation, and other times by changing us within the situation. But He always responds according to His perfect will. This is why the believer can trust Him even before the answer becomes visible.
The Lord’s answer is never random. It always comes from wisdom, love, and holiness. He sees the entire picture while we see only a fragment. He knows what tomorrow holds while we struggle to endure today. He knows which desires must be granted, which must be delayed, and which must be purified. Therefore, when we pray, we are not handing requests to an uncertain power. We are bringing them to the God who knows exactly what is best for His children.
This truth gives great peace. It allows the soul to rest even when the answer is not yet what we hoped to see. It teaches us to say, “Lord, You have heard me, and that is enough for me to continue trusting.” Such faith is not passive. It keeps praying, keeps waiting, keeps worshiping, and keeps believing that the Father does all things well.
For that reason, another natural internal support for this article is Trusting God in Hard Times. A hard season does not cancel the goodness of God. It often becomes the place where His faithfulness is known more deeply.
Let Us Keep Crying Out to the Lord
Therefore, let us not grow weary in prayer. Let us not give up because the answer seems delayed. Let us not assume that silence means neglect. Let us not allow hidden sin to harden our hearts. Instead, let us come before God with sincerity, repentance, praise, and persevering faith. Let us remember that the Lord hears the cry of His children and that His ears are never closed to the humble soul that seeks Him.
Let us also cultivate praise alongside petition. Let us bless His name daily, not only when life feels light, but also when the burden is heavy. Let us fill our mouths with adoration and our hearts with trust. For the God who listened to the psalmist still listens today. The God who heard in ancient days has not grown distant. He remains attentive, compassionate, righteous, and wise.
And if you are in a season when you have cried much and seen little, do not conclude too quickly that the Lord has forgotten you. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep cleansing your heart before Him. Keep praising Him in the night. The answer may not yet be visible, but the ear of God is not deaf. He has surely listened. He has heard your prayer. And in His perfect time, He will show once again that those who trust in Him are never abandoned.

I always cried to GOD for the help and support, he is God of joy, happiness and God that’s care about his children
Every day I pray to the Lord and cry out to him when I am feeling attacked by de Devil, or bent to make bad things by my own wickedness. When some of my brothers or other people are in need I cry out to the Lord.
From the Lord we receive help and comfort in our troubles, but sometimes I fall into temptation and I’m not able to resist. Then, my soul is sad and I’m not in peace until I look for the Lord and find out consolation.
In this situation I take the way of the king David and…
“I acknowledge my sin to you, and my iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the LORD; and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah”
