Let us really love

The Bible speaks extensively about love, presenting it not only as a virtue but as the very essence of the Christian life. From Genesis to Revelation, we see that God’s relationship with humanity is rooted in love. Jesus Himself demonstrated what true love is—His love knew no barriers, no limits, and no conditions. He endured suffering, rejection, and ultimately death on the cross, all out of love for us. This is why Scripture declares: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

This truth should deeply transform our understanding of love. In today’s world, love is often reduced to a feeling, an emotion that changes with circumstances. But biblical love is far greater than that. It is not temporary, nor is it based on convenience. It is a command, a commitment, and a reflection of the very nature of God. To understand love is to understand God, because as Scripture says, God is love.

Throughout the Scriptures, we find that love is not optional for the believer. It is essential. Without love, even the most impressive spiritual actions lose their value. A person may speak eloquently, serve tirelessly, or possess great knowledge, but without love, it all becomes empty. This is why Jesus emphasized love so strongly—not as something to talk about, but as something to live out daily.

The Greatest Example of Love: Jesus Christ

The greatest example of true love is found in Jesus Christ. His sacrifice on the cross is the clearest demonstration of what love truly is. He did not love us because we deserved it, nor because we earned it. He loved us while we were still sinners. He gave His life for those who were lost, broken, and undeserving.

This kind of love is not natural—it is divine. It goes beyond human understanding. It is sacrificial, unconditional, and eternal. When we look at the cross, we see love in its purest form. It is a love that gives, a love that endures, and a love that redeems.

To follow Christ means to reflect this same love. It means to love not only when it is easy, but also when it is difficult. It means to forgive, to serve, and to give without expecting anything in return. This is the standard that Jesus set for His followers.

Love in Action, Not Just Words

1 John 3:16-18 says:

16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

This passage makes it clear that Christian love is not merely spoken—it is demonstrated. It is not enough to say that we love others; our actions must reflect it. True love is visible. It is practical. It responds to the needs of others.

John reminds us that if we see someone in need and choose to ignore them, we are not living out the love of God. Love requires action. It requires compassion. It requires sacrifice. It calls us to step outside of ourselves and care for others in a tangible way.

This challenges us deeply. It forces us to examine whether our love is genuine or merely verbal. Real love costs something. It demands time, effort, and sometimes even personal sacrifice.

The Example of the Early Church

When we look at the early church, we see a powerful example of biblical love in action. The book of Acts describes a community that lived in unity, shared their resources, and cared for one another deeply. They had everything in common, and their lives were marked by generosity and compassion.

Their love was not theoretical—it was practical. When someone was in need, others responded. When someone was hurting, the whole community felt it. Their unity was so strong that it became a testimony to the world around them.

This is what genuine love looks like. It is not isolated or individualistic. It is shared. It is lived out in community. It reflects the heart of Christ.

The impact of this kind of love was undeniable. People were drawn to the Gospel not only because of what was preached, but because of what was lived. Love became the evidence of their faith.

The Nature of True Love

The Bible teaches us that love is patient, kind, and enduring. It does not seek its own advantage. It does not rejoice in evil, but in truth. True love perseveres through difficulty, forgives offenses, and continues even when it is not reciprocated.

This kind of love is not weak—it is strong. It is not passive—it is active. It does not give up easily, and it does not fail. Love is the greatest virtue because it reflects the character of God Himself.

Often, we struggle to define love fully, but we can always look to Christ as our example. His life, His sacrifice, and His teachings reveal what love truly is. He loved without limits, without conditions, and without hesitation.

Love Requires Sacrifice

One of the key aspects of Christian love is sacrifice. Love is not always comfortable. It often requires us to give up our preferences, our time, and sometimes even our rights.

To love as Christ loved means to serve others, to put their needs before our own, and to be willing to endure inconvenience for their sake. This goes against the natural tendencies of the human heart, which often seeks self-interest.

Yet, this is precisely what makes love so powerful. It transforms relationships. It heals wounds. It restores brokenness. When we choose to love sacrificially, we become instruments of God’s grace.

Love Transforms Our Lives

When the love of God truly takes root in our hearts, it changes us. It reshapes our attitudes, our thoughts, and our actions. It influences how we treat others, how we respond to challenges, and how we view the world.

Love makes us more patient, more compassionate, and more forgiving. It softens our hearts and opens our eyes to the needs of others. It leads us to act with kindness and to speak with grace.

This transformation is evidence of God’s work within us. It shows that we are growing in our faith and becoming more like Christ.

A Testimony to the World

When believers live out true love, it becomes a powerful testimony to the world. Love opens doors that words alone cannot. It breaks barriers, restores relationships, and draws people to God.

In a world filled with division, hatred, and selfishness, genuine love stands out. It reveals something different—something divine. It shows the reality of the Gospel in a way that cannot be ignored.

If believers today committed themselves to living in this kind of love, the impact would be profound. Families would be restored. Communities would be strengthened. Faith would grow.

A Call to Love One Another

Let us, therefore, love one another with the love of the Lord. Let us not limit love to words, but express it through actions. Let us be intentional, sincere, and faithful in how we love others.

Love is not always easy, but it is always necessary. It is the mark of a true believer. It is the evidence of a transformed life.

May our lives reflect the love of Christ. May our actions demonstrate His grace. And may the world see in us the reality of the love of God.

Because in the end, love is not just something we do—it is who we are in Christ.

  1. “Let us love one another in the love of the Lord and in this way let us show the World the love of God.”

This sentence tells us the evidence of our faith in Jesus Christ. God loves the World, he loves humans beings which he has created, and he does
not wants that anybody shall perish.
God is love, just and merciful, but
over all others attributes belongs to Him, he is Holy and he hates the bad actions of men, the sin. In Romans 6:23 it is written “for the wages of sin is death…”
We have received the forgiveness of ous bad actions.
Our Lord Jesus Christh has taken my place. He has paid the wages of my sin because he loves me, I must love my brothers.
… And in this way, let us show the World the love of God.

  2. Amen yes Jesus Christ loved us so much he gave his life for us there is no greater love than this and we should show the same love to our brothers amen
