The Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below

Sometimes people forget who God is. He is the only Almighty, the One to whom we must render honor and glory, the Creator of all things, and the One to whom nothing and no one can be compared in power or authority. This is not a minor truth—it is the foundation of the Christian life. When this truth is forgotten, everything else becomes distorted. When it is remembered, everything falls into its proper place.

This truth should lead us to deep reflection, because when the human heart forgets the greatness of God, it begins to rely on its own limited strength. Many people today walk with anxiety and fear because they do not remember that above all circumstances there is a sovereign God who governs the universe with wisdom, justice, and mercy. Recognizing who God is gives us peace, purpose, and direction. When the soul truly knows its Creator, it finds rest in His presence and stability in His promises.

Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.
Deuteronomy 4:39

There Is No Other God

This declaration from Scripture is absolute: there is no other God. The sovereignty of God extends over heaven and earth. He is not one among many; He is the only true and living God. This truth destroys every form of idolatry and every human attempt to replace Him.

Throughout history, humanity has tried to redefine God, minimize His authority, or replace Him with created things. Some worship wealth, others power, others intellect, and others even worship themselves. But none of these can compare to the Almighty God. They cannot create, they cannot sustain, and they cannot save.

To acknowledge that God is God is not merely an intellectual agreement—it is a transformation of perspective. It means recognizing that He rules over all things, that He is above all authority, and that our lives are under His control. When we truly embrace this truth, pride is broken, and humility takes its place.

The Power and Presence of God

God is powerful. Everything that exists does so by His will. The power of God is not limited or dependent—it is absolute. He speaks, and things come into existence. He commands, and creation responds. Nothing happens outside His authority.

Yet His greatness is not only seen in His power, but also in His presence. He is not a distant God who observes from afar. He is near. He watches over us daily. He sustains life, provides strength, and extends mercy. He is a God who sees, who cares, and who acts.

Throughout the Bible, we see this clearly. God intervenes in history, guides His people, and demonstrates His authority over every situation. His power is revealed not only in extraordinary miracles but also in the ordinary moments of life—the breath we take, the protection we receive, and the wisdom we are given. These are all expressions of His ongoing presence.

The Danger of Forgetting God

One of the greatest dangers in the spiritual life is forgetting who God is. This does not always happen suddenly—it often happens gradually. People become distracted, consumed by daily concerns, and focused on their own strength. Little by little, God is no longer at the center.

When this happens, fear increases. Anxiety grows. Decisions become unstable. Why? Because the heart is no longer anchored in the truth of God’s sovereignty. Without this foundation, everything becomes uncertain.

To forget God is not simply to ignore Him—it is to live as if He were not present. It is to rely on human reasoning instead of divine wisdom. It is to trust in temporary solutions instead of eternal truth. This is why Scripture continually calls us to remember.

The Reality of False Gods

Many people know that God is the Lord of heaven and earth, but others reject this truth. Instead, they turn to false gods—things created by human hands or ideas shaped by human pride. These idols have no power, no life, and no authority.

The history of humanity is filled with examples of idolatry. People have worshiped statues, nature, wealth, and even themselves. Yet none of these can hear prayers, change hearts, or provide salvation. Only the true God can do that.

Believers are called to remain firm in this truth. We must not be influenced by a culture that replaces God with temporary things. Instead, we must proclaim boldly that there is only one God worthy of worship—the Creator of heaven and earth.

Our faith is not based on imagination or tradition. It is rooted in the Word of God and in the reality of who He is. He alone is eternal, unchanging, and sovereign.

Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time.
Deuteronomy 4:40

Obedience as a Response to God

Knowing who God is should lead us to obedience. It is not enough to acknowledge His existence—we must also submit to His will. The commands of God are not burdensome; they are life-giving. They guide us toward what is right, protect us from what is harmful, and lead us into a life of blessing.

To live according to God’s Word is to align ourselves with His truth. It is to recognize that His wisdom is greater than ours. It is to trust that His ways are better, even when we do not fully understand them.

Obedience is not about legalism—it is about relationship. It is a response of love toward the One who created us and sustains us. When we obey, we are not losing freedom—we are walking in it.

Teaching the Next Generation

Scripture also reminds us of our responsibility to teach others, especially our families. Those who know the true God must pass this truth on to the next generation. This is not optional—it is essential.

We are called to teach our children, our families, and those around us that God alone is worthy of trust. In a world filled with confusion and false beliefs, this responsibility becomes even more important.

A home built on the Word of God is a strong home. It stands firm in times of difficulty. It remains stable in seasons of uncertainty. Teaching others about God is one of the greatest legacies we can leave behind.

God’s Commands Are a Blessing

Living according to God’s commandments is not a burden—it is a blessing. His laws are designed to guide us into a life of peace, justice, and integrity. They are not restrictions meant to limit us, but instructions meant to protect us.

When we follow God’s ways, we experience His favor. Not necessarily in the absence of difficulty, but in the presence of His guidance, peace, and strength. His commands lead us toward a life that reflects His character.

This is why obedience is connected to well-being. It is not about earning God’s love, but about living in alignment with His truth.

Remembering God Strengthens Our Faith

Let us not forget who created everything in heaven, on earth, and under the earth. Only God has the power to do all things. No one can replace Him. No one can compare to Him.

When we remember this, our faith is strengthened. Our perspective changes. Our fears diminish. We begin to see our problems in light of God’s greatness instead of seeing God in light of our problems.

The same God who created the universe is the One who sustains our lives. Nothing is too difficult for Him. Nothing is beyond His control. He continues to work, to restore, and to reveal His love to those who seek Him sincerely.

May we never forget His greatness. May our hearts remain anchored in the truth of who He is. And may our lives reflect His glory in everything we do.

  1. God has got control over all things , we trust and obey, so how can we explain this to non believers when there is so much sorrow i and wickedness in the world

  2. Since the time we are aware of the Holy Spirit’s work in our soul, we are gradually discovering the Lord God in a spiritual way. All the creation speaks to us of Him and we begin to contemplate mountains, seas, valleys, trees or rivers in a special way. They make me stare, in admiration, watch them and think in my God as the Creator of everything which surrounds me.
Then comes to my mind that hym we sometimes sing: “Oh God my Lord, you are marvellous. How Great is Him”

  3. Thank you God for everything you are going to do for me, I believe in you and I trust in you alone my Lord without you my God I am nothing amen
