Each day we must ask the Lord to help us have patience, to endure all temptations, and to overcome all the obstacles that come into our lives. The Christian walk is not a path free of difficulties; rather, it is filled with moments that test our faith, our character, and our dependence on God. Yet, through every trial, God shapes us, strengthens us, and teaches us to trust fully in Him.
The psalmist David had many enemies, men who constantly persecuted him and sought ways to destroy him. However, something extraordinary happened with this man of God: instead of placing his eyes on the greatness of his adversaries, David humbled himself before the Lord. He did not rely on his own strength, nor did he allow fear to dominate him. Instead, he immediately turned to God and asked Him to take justice into His own hands. This attitude is a great lesson for all of us—when troubles arise, our first reaction must be to seek God.
Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious of those who do wrong;Psalm 37:1
There was a time when King Saul became David’s enemy, and Saul sent his guards to pursue him with the intention of killing him. But God protected David. He kept him not only from Saul’s armies but also from the wild beasts and dangers that surrounded him in the desert. This was not because David was stronger or more intelligent, but because God had His hand over him.
One of the things David understood very well was that evil prospers only for a moment. He did not envy evildoers because he knew their end. Envy is something that displeases God deeply. To envy someone’s prosperity—especially when that prosperity comes from wrongdoing—is to forget the justice of the Lord and the eternal destiny of the wicked.
for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.Psalm 37:2
This is the promise for everyone who commits evil: their prosperity will fade quickly. Just as grass dries up when it does not receive water, so will the plans and successes of those who walk in wickedness perish before God. Evil is never sustainable, because it is not rooted in righteousness. It may flourish for a moment, but it cannot endure.
Imagine a countryside during a dry season. When the rain ceases, the grass that once looked lush, green, and strong begins to wither and turn to dust. In the same way, the life of the wicked may appear prosperous for a time, but without the living water of God, without holiness, without righteousness, everything eventually collapses.
This should encourage us to be wise in our walk with the Lord. We must examine our actions, our motivations, and our hearts. Are we acting in a way that pleases God? Are we walking in righteousness and humility? The Bible is clear: “Those who do evil will be cut off,” but those who trust in the Lord will inherit His promises.
Therefore, let us not be disturbed by the apparent success of the wicked. Instead, let us remain firm in the Lord, trusting that His justice is perfect. Let us endure trials with patience, knowing that God is in control and that He sustains His children with His powerful hand. May we walk wisely, do what is pleasing to God’s eyes, and trust that the Lord will defend us, protect us, and give us victory over every adversary.
