Have you ever truly stopped to meditate on how good our God is? This is not a superficial question, but one that should shape the way we live each day. I believe that when we wake up, the first thing we should do is reflect on the goodness of God toward us. Before thinking about our problems, responsibilities, or concerns, we should remember His faithfulness. The reality is that we have not been good toward God, yet He has consistently shown us His goodness, mercy, and patience, even when we have not deserved it.
Among human beings, kindness is often conditional. We tend to do good when someone has first done something good for us. It is rare to find someone who acts with genuine generosity without expecting something in return. But God does not operate under human conditions. His goodness is not a response—it is part of His nature. He loves freely, gives generously, and remains faithful even when we fail Him.
The Nature of God’s Goodness
When we speak about the goodness of God, we are not referring to a simple attribute among many. God’s goodness is essential to who He is. Everything He does flows from His perfect character. He does not sometimes act in goodness—He is always good, in every moment, in every circumstance.
This means that even when we do not understand what God is doing, we can trust that His actions are good. Our perspective is limited, but His wisdom is infinite. What may seem confusing or difficult to us is always part of a greater purpose shaped by His goodness.
The apostle Paul expressed this truth clearly when he wrote to Timothy:
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,
1 Timothy 2:3-6
These verses reveal the heart of God. His desire is not destruction, but salvation. He longs for people to come to the knowledge of the truth. His goodness is expressed in His patience, His grace, and His willingness to save.
The Greatest Expression of God’s Goodness
God is good, yes—truly good. He has performed countless wonders and powerful works, but among them, the greatest is this: He has brought us to the knowledge of the truth.
If God, in His infinite mercy, had not opened our eyes, we would still be walking in darkness. We would be unaware of our need for salvation and separated from Him. But because of His goodness, we now know Him, serve Him, and live with hope.
We owe everything to Him. Every blessing we enjoy—our home, our family, our work, and even the breath we take—is a result of His goodness. Nothing we have is truly ours; it is all given by God.
This realization should produce humility in our hearts. It reminds us that we are not self-sufficient. We are completely dependent on God for everything.
God’s Goodness Toward All Humanity
Many non-believers attempt to blame God for the evil that exists in the world. They conclude that if suffering exists, then God must not be good. However, this perspective ignores a fundamental truth: God’s goodness is evident even in a fallen world.
Jesus Himself taught that God causes the sun to rise on both the good and the evil, and that He sends rain on the just and the unjust. This means that God shows kindness even to those who reject Him.
Every day, people who deny God still benefit from His goodness. They breathe His air, enjoy His creation, and experience His provision. This is what theologians often call “common grace”—God’s goodness extended to all people, regardless of their response to Him.
This should challenge us to see God more clearly. His goodness is not limited, selective, or conditional. It is abundant, consistent, and far-reaching.
The Patience of God and the Opportunity for Repentance
If God were not good, humanity would have been destroyed long ago. The fact that we are still here is evidence of His patience. God continues to extend time for repentance.
His patience should not be misunderstood as weakness. It is not that God is unable to act, but that He chooses to delay judgment in order to show mercy. His desire is that people turn from sin and find life in Him.
Every moment we live is an opportunity given by God. Every day is a chance to repent, to grow, and to draw closer to Him. This is a clear demonstration of His goodness.
The Cross: The Ultimate Display of God’s Love
The greatest act of love in all history is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. There is no greater demonstration of goodness than this: God gave His Son to die for our sins.
Christ bore our guilt, our shame, and our punishment so that we could receive forgiveness and eternal life. This was not something we earned or deserved. It was given freely, out of God’s love.
The cross reveals both the justice and the goodness of God. Justice, because sin was punished. Goodness, because we were given grace instead of condemnation.
Through Christ, we are reconciled to God. Through Him, we receive new life. This is the greatest gift we could ever receive.
The Transforming Power of Meditating on God’s Goodness
When we take time to meditate on God’s goodness, something changes within us. Our perspective shifts. Our hearts become more grateful. Our attitudes become more humble.
Gratitude replaces complaint. Instead of focusing on what we lack, we begin to recognize what we have been given. Instead of dwelling on difficulties, we remember God’s faithfulness.
This does not mean that life becomes free of challenges. But it means that we face those challenges with a different perspective. We know that God is good, even when circumstances are difficult.
The same God who sustained Israel in the wilderness, who opened blind eyes, and who raised Christ from the dead is the God who watches over us today. His goodness does not change.
Living a Life of Gratitude and Worship
Let us cultivate a heart of gratitude. This is not something that happens automatically—it must be intentional. We must choose to remember God’s goodness daily.
Gratitude leads to worship. When we recognize what God has done, we cannot remain silent. We are moved to praise Him, to thank Him, and to honor Him with our lives.
Worship is the natural response to understanding God’s goodness. It is not limited to songs or gatherings—it is expressed in how we live, how we speak, and how we treat others.
A grateful heart is a powerful testimony. It reflects a life that recognizes God’s hand in everything. It points others to the source of true goodness.
Proclaiming God’s Goodness to Others
The goodness of God is not meant to be kept to ourselves. It is a truth that must be shared. The world is filled with people who misunderstand God, who see Him as distant, harsh, or irrelevant.
But we have experienced His goodness. We have seen His grace. We have received His salvation. We are called to proclaim this truth.
When we speak about God’s goodness, we are pointing others to hope. We are showing them that there is a God who saves, restores, and loves without limits.
God’s Goodness: A Truth to Live and Declare
The goodness of God is not just a doctrine to believe—it is a reality to experience and a truth to live. It shapes our faith, influences our decisions, and transforms our lives.
God is good, and His mercy endures forever. This is not just a statement—it is a foundation upon which we can build our lives.
May we never forget His goodness. May we meditate on it daily. May we allow it to transform our hearts and guide our lives.
And may we always declare with confidence: our God is good, and His love never fails.

God is good

In the Scriptures are plenty of references about the goodness of our Lord God.
These are three samples of it:
“Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.” (Psalm 25:8)
“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him.” (Psalm 34:8)
“And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
And Jesus said to him, Why call you me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.” (Luke 18:18-19)
Nobody can say anything against God, who created all things and sustains mankind on the world, after setting man and woman on the earth.
And He thinks of their eternal security and the welfare of their souls.
After Adam and Eve had fallen, he gave them a way to be near Him, to meet or commune with Him again. That was through the perfection of His beloved Son, Jesus, for those that believe in Himβwho is both God and man. As a man, Jesus wanted to receive the punishment the sins of mankind deserve.
This is a special demonstration of love from God. Jesus Christ was on his Throne in heaven, but he left His majesty, took on a carnal perfect body, and He gave himself up, bearing and carrying our cross to a mount: Calvary. And there he died, suffering and shedding his blood, which cleanses of their sins those who go to Him by faith, admitting their guilt of sinners.
God is good, yes: He is good and we are evil people by birth, inclined to do all sorts of evil things.
If there are hardships on the world, it is men who provoke them: Calamities like mass killing, or wars. Sometimes earthquakes, pests, or tsunamis are some signals which were prophesied before the end of all things and the second coming of Jesus Christ (see the gospel).
But as for us, Christians, let’s wait for the coming of Jesus, our Lord. To Him be glory.
