The tomb is empty

After the death of Jesus, some women went to his tomb to anoint his body:

1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body.

2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb

3 and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”

Mark 16:1-3

Jesus had repeatedly told them: “I will die but on the third day I will rise from the dead,” giving them to understand that on the third day He would not be there. And that was exactly how it happened. However, despite having heard the Lord’s promises with their own ears, these women approached the tomb with hearts full of sadness, expecting to find the body of Jesus still lying in the place where He had been laid.

But they did not remember these words spoken by the Lord, and for that reason His resurrection was a surprise. As they arrived, they saw something unexpected—something that changed the course of history forever: the tomb was open. The heavy stone they were worried about had already been rolled away, not by human hands, but by divine intervention.

Then two angels appeared to them and asked why they were searching among the dead for the One who is alive. At that moment, their minds were brought back to what Jesus had said about His resurrection. They remembered how He had told them that suffering, death, and burial would not be the end of His story. Instead, He would rise in glory, proving that He truly is the Son of God.

But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.

Mark 16:7

Then Jesus appears to these two disciples and they went to tell others about this fact, but something happened—something that still reflects the struggle of many hearts today: even they did not believe what had happened on the way. The news of the resurrection sounded too astonishing, too supernatural, too glorious for their minds to grasp immediately.

It is very clear that in all of history there is only One who has risen with authority, power, and victory over death: Jesus Christ. No other religious leader, no philosopher, no prophet, and no moral teacher has ever made such a claim—much less fulfilled it. Jesus not only predicted His death but also announced His resurrection and carried it out exactly as He said He would.

Even when Christ explained everything beforehand, many still found it difficult to believe. And honestly, this continues to happen. There are people today who struggle with faith, who wrestle with doubt, who question whether Jesus is truly alive. Yet the empty tomb remains a historical and spiritual testimony that cannot be erased. The resurrection is the foundation of our faith, the anchor of our hope, and the ultimate evidence that Jesus is who He claimed to be.

Think of it this way: in the tomb of Muhammad, there are the bones of Muhammad. In Buddha’s tomb, there are Buddha’s bones. Every founder of every religion lies in a grave that holds their remains. But Christ’s tomb is empty. Not because His body was stolen, not because His disciples invented a story, but because He truly rose from the dead by the power of God.

Science can question His existence, scholars can debate Him, and skeptics can mock our faith. They may call belief in Jesus ignorance or naïve hope, but none of them can erase what He has done in the hearts of millions throughout history. They cannot silence the transformation, the miracles, the deliverance, the peace, and the salvation that Jesus continues to give. They cannot undo the work He has done in your life or mine.

In the tomb of Mahoma, there are the bones of Mahoma; in Buddha’s tomb there are Buddha’s bones. There is no idol that has risen yet, only Christ on the third day left the tomb empty, science can deny His existence, can say that our faith in Jesus is ignorance, but can not erase what He did in my being, can never achieve that I stop believing.

Dear reader, rejoice in this truth: our Savior is alive. The empty tomb is not merely a historical detail—it is the eternal declaration that life has conquered death, truth has conquered lies, and light has conquered darkness. Christ lives, and because He lives, we also have hope beyond the grave.

Always joyful in the Lord
The good fight of the faith
