God is immense

How can we define God? There are no words that can define Him completely, since He is such an immense and indescribable being for our finite minds.

We must be clear about this, God is too big, we are like ants before Him. There is nothing that can be likened to or compared to God, even the most powerful angel is worthy of being compared to the might of our sublime God. He simply has no rivals, there is no one who can lead Him, and there is nothing so beautiful that can resemble Him.

Throughout history, humanity has tried to represent God through images, figures, words, and concepts, but all these efforts fall short. Our language, our thoughts, and our imagination are limited, while God is eternal, infinite, and beyond time. This is why Scripture constantly reminds us that His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts higher than our thoughts. When we try to measure God with human parameters, we quickly realize how small our understanding really is.

See what the prophet Isaiah says about the immensity of our Lord:

1 Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?

2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

Isaiah 66:1-2

Do you think God can fit in a temple made by the hands of men? Well look, the sky is huge, and it’s like a throne to Him, the earth is big in size and that’s where He rests His feet. Possibly these words are not literal, but they do help us understand a little about how great our Lord is. God is not limited by space, walls, or structures. No building, no matter how magnificent, can contain His presence or His glory.

This truth should lead us to humility. If the heavens themselves cannot contain Him, how much less can we pretend to control God or reduce Him to our own expectations? Many times, people try to shape God according to their own desires, but God is not subject to human will. He remains sovereign, powerful, and holy, far above everything that exists.

At the same time, Isaiah reveals something deeply comforting: despite God’s immensity, He pays attention to the humble and contrite heart. The Almighty Creator of heaven and earth looks with favor upon those who tremble at His word. This shows us that God’s greatness does not distance Him from us; instead, it magnifies His grace. He is exalted, yet close. He is infinite, yet personal.

God does not conform to our human thoughts, but He is majestic and powerful and even the heavens of heaven can contain Him. O beloved brothers, the good news is that we serve that immense God and that even though He is so great, He wants to have a friendship with us that we are smaller than an ant before Him.

This is one of the most wonderful mysteries of faith: the same God who created galaxies, oceans, and mountains desires to dwell in the hearts of those who seek Him sincerely. He does not despise our weakness, nor does He ignore our prayers. On the contrary, He listens, guides, corrects, and sustains us day by day.

Understanding who God is should inspire reverence, worship, and gratitude in our lives. When we recognize His greatness, we also recognize our dependence on Him. We learn to trust Him more, to obey His word, and to surrender our lives into His hands. Serving such a great God is not a burden, but a privilege, because His power is matched by His love and mercy.

May we never forget that although God cannot be fully defined by human words, He has revealed Himself enough for us to know Him, love Him, and walk with Him. Let us approach Him with humility, awe, and faith, knowing that the infinite God has chosen to draw near to us.

Keep yourselves in the love of God
