God fights our battles

We have all read even a little of the history of the people of Israel, and specifically when they were in Egypt and God brought them out with strong hands from there. Without a doubt, God showed an incredible love for this people, doing wonders, signs and wonders in front of their enemies, showed them that He was with them and that they had nothing to fear.

Chapter 14 of Exodus tells us how God made His people pass in the dry by the Red Sea. But, before they to pass, doubt penetrated in their hearts when they saw that the Egyptians were coming after them and said:

Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”

Exodus 14:12

You will say: “That soon the heart of the people of Israel went after the doubt”. It is true, they in many moments are presented as a people that doubts and even departed from God at a certain time, however, we must know that this was not any time, their enemies came behind and they where running in direction to the sea. This is not a support towards their little faith, but from here we can get a question which we will answer in our mind: What would we do at such a time?

We have also done the same thing they did in times of trials, and we have said: Where are you Lord? Only maybe we do it with less dramatic words, but in the end it is the same.

At a time like this Israel needed a leader and not any leader, and the good thing is that they had him, since, Moses told them in that difficult moment:

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.

Exodus 14:13

How comforting these words that Moses said to the people of Israel. He did not judge their foolish heart, but encouraged them to continue to believe in God even though they were facing the sea and with the Egyptians behind them.

Moses continues saying:

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Exodus 14:14

May these words also penetrate our hearts and may we understand that we do not fight all of our battles alone, but that God is there with us helping us to fight. We are not alone, and this should encourage us in the middle of the desert, in the midst of our trials.
