Light in the midst of darkness

When we speak of darkness, we are referring that light in the midst of darkness shines. The Bible says that in the beginning of creation, that darkness covered the whole earth.

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Genesis 1:1-5

Here we see that the earth was covered by darkness, and if the earth was covered by darkness it was because nothing was seen. Everything was dark.

When we talk about light we find a verse where Jesus talks about being the light of the world. It is not that you will be in a darkness and will turn on a bulb to have light, rather you as a follower of Christ will set an example to all those who walk in darkness.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

Jesus was referring to this as saying that we should be the light of the world, and wherever we go be light, so that others can see our good work and God be glorified in everything.

The world is always attentive to us giving a false footstep to point us and accuse us, saying: “There are the children of God making mistakes, failing to God.”

These people who judge you do not enter the Path or seek God, but it is good that those of us who that are on the path set an example to those who are not in it, so that God will forgive them and save them from all the evil of this world, That’s why it’s good for people who are out of the way to reconsider because salvation is individual, there is only one who can save you and that is called Jesus Christ the giver of life:

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Acts 4:12

Understanding this contrast between darkness and light helps us understand our spiritual responsibility. Just as God brought order to a world that was formless and empty, He also desires to bring order to our hearts. Darkness represents confusion, sin, and spiritual blindness, while light represents clarity, truth, and the presence of God. When Christ shines in our lives, He exposes everything that was hidden and gives us direction. Many people live in darkness without realizing it, thinking that the lifestyle they lead is normal, but when they encounter the light of Christ, they finally understand what true life means.

It is also important to remember that light does not argue with darkness; it simply shines. A small light is enough to displace a great darkness. In the same way, a small act of kindness, a word of encouragement, or a testimony lived with integrity can impact someone who is spiritually lost. Sometimes we believe that to preach the gospel we need grand speeches, but Jesus teaches us that our lives themselves can testify of His glory if we walk in obedience.

The call to shine is not about perfection but about reflecting the One who saved us. God knows our weaknesses, but He also empowers us to live in such a way that those around us can see a different path. Many people will never enter a church or open a Bible, but they will observe the life of a believer. That is why our testimony carries such weight. We are not the source of the light; Christ is. But we are like lamps that carry His brightness into places where hope seems lost.

Just as God separated the light from the darkness at the beginning of creation, He also separates His children from the spiritual darkness of this world. Walking in the light means choosing truth over lies, obedience over rebellion, purity over sin, and faith over fear. A believer who walks in the light becomes a living testimony that transformation is possible. And just as the first day began with light breaking through the darkness, so also a new life begins when Christ illuminates the heart.
