Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness: Works of the flesh

The only way that we can wisely fight the flesh and its desires is by praying to the Lord and putting our lives in His hands, let’s remember that our fight is in the spiritual world.

Many evil works persecute the flesh, and if you are weak, it is good that you know the works of the flesh, which we must take care of every day so as not to sin against God.

These are tools designed by the devil to be able to attack the church of Christ, because if the believer is going through delicate moments and his faith wanes, then this will be a sign for the devil to enter and harm you.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Galatians 5:19

It is very true that Christ made us free, but rather a freedom from slavery to sin, not to sin, but to follow Jesus and give an account of all things to Him, firmly following in His footsteps and not letting the flesh win. to the Spirit.

The apostle Paul warns about the battle between the flesh and the spirit, that is why he commands us to stand firm in the freedom of the Spirit, being obedient wise men in the Lord.

Paul recommends this to us: Walk in the Spirit, and you will not satisfy the desires of the flesh. Brothers, let us always seek spiritual things by studying his word at all times, because we know well that the enemy will always be on the lookout to be able to get you out of God’s will.

This struggle between the flesh and the Spirit is not something new, nor is it exclusive to one generation. Since the beginning, humanity has faced this internal conflict, where the desires of the flesh attempt to dominate the will that should be submitted to God. That is why the believer must be constantly alert, recognizing that spiritual care is not a one-time effort, but a daily commitment.

When the Word of God speaks of the works of the flesh, it does so not to condemn without hope, but to warn and guide. Knowing these works allows the believer to identify areas of weakness and to seek God’s help before falling into sin. Ignorance of spiritual danger often leads to carelessness, and carelessness can lead to spiritual ruin.

The devil does not usually attack openly at first, but rather through subtle temptations, appealing to desires that seem harmless. That is why moments of spiritual weakness are especially dangerous. When prayer is neglected and communion with God is interrupted, the flesh finds space to grow stronger. The enemy takes advantage of these moments to sow doubt, fear, and disobedience.

True freedom in Christ does not mean living without limits, but living under the lordship of Jesus. The believer is no longer a slave to sin, but a servant of righteousness. This freedom brings responsibility, because those who have been redeemed must now live in obedience, guided by the Holy Spirit, rejecting everything that contradicts God’s will.

Walking in the Spirit implies an active relationship with God, nourished through prayer, fasting, and constant study of Scripture. The Spirit strengthens the believer to resist the flesh, granting wisdom to make right decisions even in difficult circumstances. Without this spiritual nourishment, the Christian becomes vulnerable to temptation.

The apostle Paul understood this reality very well and therefore exhorted the churches to remain firm. Spiritual victory is not achieved by human strength, but by total dependence on God. Those who rely on their own abilities will eventually fail, but those who trust in the Lord will be sustained by His grace.

For this reason, believers must examine themselves daily, asking God to reveal anything that may be hindering their spiritual growth. Repentance and humility before the Lord restore fellowship and renew strength. God is faithful to forgive and to guide those who sincerely seek Him.

Let us remember that the Christian life is a race of perseverance. Although the flesh continually tries to impose its desires, the Spirit empowers us to overcome. If we remain faithful, walking according to the Spirit, we will experience the victory that Christ has already won for us on the cross.
