The immensity of God’s power

Who is God? He is an existing being, which is superior to men and angels. He is that incomparable being, full of absolute power, governor of the entire universe and of the heavens of the heavens. He is the ultimate expression of wisdom, power and holiness. What else can we say about God? I could fill these pages talking about how powerful and fearsome our Creator is and even then we would not reach the full knowledge of who God is.

We never finish knowing God. And this is why the apostle Paul says: “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.” (1 Corinthians 13:12) The Bible possesses approximately 3,5666,480 letters; 773,746 words; 31.102 verses; 1,189 chapters and 66 books and even with all that wonder of literary expression that speaks so much of God, we continue to see darkly. We continue to know only a little about who God is.

We have read so many portentous facts of God in His Word, things that when we read them we are impressed of all that God can do, of His power, however, that is not even one percent of the wonders that our Creator can do. I love a verse that says: But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built! (1 Kings 8:27).

Can you imagine the size, the immensity, of the heavens of the heavens? And yet they can not contain Him, because our God is greater than the heavens of the heavens, than the universe itself and everything that can exist, and for this reason Matthew presents the earth as the footstool of his feet and heaven his throne (Matthew 5:34).

Our God is great! We could live eternity of eternities and even then we would not finish knowing God. Do you realize who we serve? We do not serve Father Noah or superman, we serve the God of the armies of heaven. And it must be an honor for us to have that little knowledge of who He is.

Finally, the psalmist said:

Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;
His understanding is infinite.”
