There are those verses in the Bible that have their own light, in the sense that you do not have to go through the whole Bible to understand them, because, certainly there are many verses that are difficult to understand and can not be interpreted by themselves, but there are that study the context to be faithful to what the author wanted to say.
There is a verse in the Bible that seems to be among the most cited of our century, which is John 3:16, also other texts, like Philippians 4:13, Psalm 23, Psalm 91, among others, seem to be the most mentioned in our times. But it is also very true that we often interpret them superfluously, and we do not give them the true meaning that the author gave them at that time. But with John 3:16 this does not happen, almost everyone understands what the verse means, although perhaps there are some other things that escape to us.
In John 3:16 all the love of God for humanity is summarized, because in His short words He gives us a great detail of the love that the Father felt for the world.
This great verse says:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
The first thing is that God loved the world, demonstrating a love that brokes all barriers in humanity. Never another person felt so much love for the human race, instead, God demonstrated his love for humanity by giving or delivering the most valuable thing he could offer: “His only Son”. We were guilty of great sins, we had disobeyed the divine law and that communion we had with God was broken. But God, He loved us so much that He did not leave things like that, but that He provided a perfect sacrifice to satisfy His justice.
The text does not say that God sold or that He gave us something that we deserved, it is just the opposite, God gave us something that we did not deserve in the least, and He took such great care that He gave us the most valuable. Is not this amazing? God in His eternal grace blessed us with His greatest blessing: “He gave us His only son”.
And God gave us His Son and everyone who believes in Him will be saved. There is no doubt about this, through the death of Christ on the cross, God gave us the gift of eternal life and that makes us sure in that promise. God is not like certain men who make promises that they can never fulfill. His Word is safe and this gives us a peace that surpasses all understanding.
In the last place, God has given us eternal life so that we do not lose ourselves in hell, so that we do not spend eternity of eternities suffering in hell. The Father’s love for humanity is the greatest love. It simply has nothing to compare with. Many people have wanted to compare the love of a mother with that of God, but no, the love of God is incomparable and unequaled.
