It is certainly as the apostle Paul said: “The Word of God is useful.” And it is useful for everything, since in it we find everything we need, it is like the sea, if we sail deeply we can find all kinds of fish, the same happens with the Bible, if we scrutinize it we can find everything we need in our Christian life.
The Bible tells us about gossip, and we should all know what gossip is, but just in case someone doesn’t know, gossip can be defined as unverified news that circulates in the middle of people, which is mostly in the negative sense , that is, to harm.
But, again, what does the Bible tell us about gossip? Let’s see:
Break friendships
If there is really something that can destroy a friendship, it is gossip, since feelings can be hurt and taken as foolishly as possible. This is one of the powers of gossip, destroying friendships.
A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
Proverbs 16:28
Gossip damages everything
Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
Exodus 23:1
Spreading gossip or false rumor is a way of being a false witness and of harming a number of people, and God has not called us to such a thing, therefore, it is best if you heard something not to spread it, because you do not know if you are being a false witness along with who started such a comment.
God will destroy the gossip
Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.
Psalm 101:5
Throughout the Bible we learn that gossip is an evil that affects everyone, but we also learn that it is an evil that we must master, that it is an evil that should not exist in the Church of Christ, since gossipers will not inherit the Kingdom of heavens.
The Bible sends us to love our neighbor as ourselves, which means that if we live speaking against our brother, then we are not demonstrating that love and that makes us deserving of God’s wrath.
