Sweat runs through the skin of thousands of Israeli soldiers. They are confused, their hands tremble, fear runs through their veins, and bitterness and pain begin to take control of their thoughts. With every breath they feel the weight of defeat drawing near. They are, in simple terms, in full despair. Across the battlefield stands one man—one warrior whose size and arrogance overshadow their courage. He lifts his voice every morning and every evening, trying to intimidate the people of God with foolish and blasphemous words. His pride grows greater each day, believing that God is silent, that God does not answer, that God has abandoned His people. To this uncircumcised Philistine, it almost seems as if God is deaf and has forgotten His own beloved nation.
However, in that very moment of hopelessness, God once again reveals His power in the most unexpected way. Instead of sending a seasoned warrior, He sends a young shepherd, a boy without military experience, to confront the giant. The Philistine, filled with pride, takes the entire scene as a mockery. He cannot imagine that God could use someone so young, so simple, so insignificant in the world’s eyes, to defeat him and glorify His name in the presence of all Israel. But God is not deaf, and He is never absent. He hears, He sees, and He responds right on time.
Evil after evil, sickness upon sickness, hatred, enmity, corruption, infidelity—these are only some of the words that accurately describe the world we live in today. A world drifting farther each day, a world full of pride that forgets its Creator, a world that presumes that everything it possesses is the result of its own strength. Many even dare to conclude that if tragedies occur, it must be because God is silent, because God sees nothing, because He is deaf to human suffering. But this thought is a lie born of spiritual blindness. God has never been deaf, nor has He ever stopped working.
Throughout the Scriptures we encounter countless testimonies of men and women who experienced firsthand that God hears, answers, and intervenes. These stories are not myths or fairytales; they are reminders that the same God who acted then is the One who reigns today. God showed His people His power time and time again, and those He delivered could boldly testify that faithful and powerful is the One in whom they had placed their trust.
How many biblical testimonies could we mention? They are innumerable. God divided the Red Sea, allowing His people to walk through on dry ground, and there, in that very place of deliverance, all their enemies perished. God rained down stones from heaven upon Israel’s adversaries in battle, demonstrating that the forces of nature are under His command. When King Nebuchadnezzar created a statue and demanded worship, three faithful young men refused. They were thrown into a fiery furnace, one of the harshest sentences of their time. Yet, in the middle of the flames, a fourth man appeared—one who looked like “a son of the gods.” Not even their clothes were burned, and the smell of fire did not cling to them.
These accounts echo across generations to declare one great truth: God is not deaf. He is not indifferent. He is not absent. The God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Daniel, and David is the same God who reigns today. He still speaks, He still works miracles, He still keeps His promises, and He still defends His people. He knows the right moment to intervene. He knows when to silence the enemy. And He knows how to lift His children when they feel surrounded by giants.
My brothers, we serve a powerful God who sees every tear, hears every prayer, and understands every battle of the heart. When it seems like darkness grows stronger, God’s light shines brightest. When it seems like the enemy mocks without restraint, God prepares a victory that will silence every tongue. When it appears that heaven is quiet, God is actually working behind the scenes.
God is not deaf. He is ready, willing, and attentive to hear our prayers and supplications. Trust Him. Seek Him. Cry out to Him. And in His perfect time, He will respond.
