Bible verses about victory

In the Old Testament victory is associated with our God, with His power, glory and majesty in control of His creation. From the Old Testament to the New Testament we can see that He gives victory to those who are faithful to Him.

Then we will show you some biblical verses and brief explanations in each one, where we will also notice that faith is the victory that overcomes the world and through that faith we can know the victory through what God has done with Jesus.

The victory is from the Lord

All things that exist in the heavens and on earth belong to our God, so David said when he blessed God at the ceremony where Solomon was proclaimed as David’s successor before the throne:

Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.

1 Chronicles 29:11

Everything is His, even the victory, the victory that He has given us is not ours, it is His!

God is the one who gives the victory

Do we achieve our victories with our own strengths and our own merits? If you think like that, meditate on the next verse that belongs to a psalm where David implored for help and prosperity:

It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword.

Psalm 144:10

As we said in the previous section, the victory is the Lord’s, and if the victory is the Lord’s, is not He who gives it to us?. It is He who gives us the victory and who rescues us.

Does this mean that because He is the one who gives the victory we can sit idly by waiting for Him to do everything? Let’s see what proverbs says:

The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.

Proverbs 21:31

It is really necessary that we get ready for the battle, but always taking into account that who will lead us to victory is God.

In the crowd of counselors there is victory

If you are one of those who face battles with your own strengths and your own wisdom, you should consider making another stop to reflect. The book of proverbs, which is full of wisdom, illustrates another of the key points for victory:

Surely you need guidance to wage war,
and victory is won through many advisers.

Proverbs 24:6

If we have good counselors around us and with the support of God, we will be effectively guided to victory.

We will win to death

Paul, speaking to the Corinthians about the resurrection of the dead, describes the victory we will have over death on that great day:

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:54-57

It is very interesting the verse 57, which says that God gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our faith is the victory that defeated the world

If we are born of God, we can overcome the world, and an essential ingredient to achieve victory over the world is faith:

or whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

1 John 5:4

The victory of those who have been born of God is hidden in the cross of Calvary, in that moment in which our Lord sacrificed Himself for us, where He nailed all our sins. If you want to go deeper into this, we invite you to read our article Everything born of God overcomes the world.
