A lesson of humility is what we found when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, because He taught them that they had to do the same with their brothers, because if He, being the greatest in the kingdom of heaven, did it, what else does He leave us to us who are small before Him?.
Jesus was always speaking to the disciples, teaching them about being compassionate towards others, Jesus was doing all this because He would one day leave this earth. These teachings served for when His disciples walked all over the world preaching, teaching about the good news of salvation.
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
John 13:15
Jesus spoke to them and set the example so that none of them would forget to do this with their neighbors, and this so that they understood that, even if they considered themselves older or younger, they could make this gesture of humility.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
John 13:16
Jesus sets an example about His Father, who is greater than Him and that those around Him, giving them to understand that, if He can do these things with us, what can we say about the Father who created us, who gave us life, that created all the things that are around us, and that His mercies are upon us every day, and that they are new day after day?.
If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
John 13:17
Blessed is he who knows these things and puts them into practice, as the previous verse says. We hope that we can put these teachings of Jesus for the disciples into practice, showing humility with others.
