He brought us forth by the word of truth

The story of when Nicodemus asked Jesus is well known: “How can I, being an adult, be born again?” And is that the Bible has always insisted on what is the new birth, new creature, be born again, etc. Remember something very important, we are heirs of the Adamic sin, but, Christ claimed us at a very high price, which is to die for our sins and exactly that is what makes us born again.

The Bible says:

Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

James 1:18

What is the word of truth? The gospel is the word of truth, Jesus is the word of truth, and is that there is no other truth that can be done to free men, so Jesus said: “And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:32). What truth does Christ refer to? He refers to Himself, there is no other name under heaven where we can be saved except in the name of Jesus. Our Lord has been given a name that is above all names for every knee to bow and confess that He is the Lord.

Men create institutions to help people to leave the vices, but we must understand something and it is the spiritual, there are bonds in men that only God can set free and this is achieved when Christ comes into our lives and is there where He makes new creatures, born again by His Holy Word.

We are more than privileged that His Holy Word has made us born again and that is why we enjoy the greatest delight: “Belonging to the body of Christ”.

When we talk about being born again, we are not referring to a superficial change or to adopting a new moral code. The new birth is a profound transformation that occurs in the deepest part of the human being, a work of the Holy Spirit that renews our mind, cleanses our heart, and redirects our desires toward God. Nicodemus himself, being a teacher of Israel, could not understand this mystery, because the new birth is not achieved through human effort but through divine intervention.

Jesus explained to him that just as the wind blows wherever it wants and we hear its sound but cannot see where it comes from, so is everyone who is born of the Spirit. This means that the change God produces in us is real, visible in its fruits, but its origin is heavenly. The Gospel penetrates the heart, confronts sin, and exposes our need for a Savior. Then, when we respond in faith, God regenerates us and gives us a new life.

Being born again also implies receiving a new identity. Before Christ, our identity was tied to the old nature, marked by sin and spiritual death. But once we come to Christ, we are transferred from darkness to His marvelous light. We are no longer slaves of sin but children of God, adopted into His family and called to live according to His will. This new identity brings with it new priorities, new habits, and a renewed purpose.

Another important truth is that the new birth produces visible fruits. A person who has been regenerated by the Word will begin to show signs of spiritual life: love for God, love for others, desire to learn the Scriptures, hunger for holiness, and a genuine repentance when failing. These fruits do not save us, but they are evidence that salvation has taken place within us. It is as if the divine seed planted by the Word begins to grow and bear fruit by the power of the Spirit.

Moreover, this new birth gives us access to the blessings of the kingdom of God. We are no longer strangers but citizens of heaven, pilgrims on earth with a glorious hope. The Holy Spirit testifies to our hearts that we belong to Christ, and even in the midst of trials, we are strengthened by the certainty that God began a good work in us and will bring it to completion. This promise fills us with confidence and joy, knowing that our new life is secure in Him.

Therefore, being born again is not just a theological concept, but a living reality that transforms every area of our lives. It is the doorway through which we enter a relationship with God, the foundation of our faith, and the assurance that we belong to the body of Christ. Let us give thanks each day for the precious gift of the new birth and let us live in a way that reflects the power of the Word of truth that has made us new creatures.

Since our spirit, our soul, is contaminated by sin from birth, we are prone to do bad works. So we need to be purified, as the Lord Jesus Christ said, we need to born again by water and the spirit. Water is a symbol of purification, that is needed so that our spirits, which are dead by sin, may live again and be purified, and therefore enter the Kingdom of God.

“Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” ( John 3:5)

Jesus teaches, his people, that we need to be baptized by water, which is a signal of purification of our sins by the shedding of his blood on the Cross, the blood of the new covenant.

All the children of God have been born again with the Word of truth. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the Word who was since the beginning, as the Gospel of John tells us: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Every good perfect gift comes down from the Father of light, so we are blessed by Him to be the first fruits of his Spirit.

We are creatures of Christ, spiritually revived by the Word of truth and the power of the Holy Spirit… “created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2: 10)

May we, then, press on toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Amen.
