A sheepherder takes great care of his sheep, not only feeds them, but also guides them, bandages them when they are wounded or injured, takes them to rest and dwell in green pastures. A shepherd simply takes care of his sheep and in the same way God takes care of us, guides us and bandages us when we are hurt or injured. That is why the psalmist David said: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want”. It is good that today we understand the great significance of being the sheep of the Lord and that the Lord be our shepherd.
Jesus said:
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.
John 10:27-29
To the Pharisees and principals of the synagogues it was impossible for them to believe in the words of Jesus, they could not believe that He was the Christ or the Son of God, even seeing all the wonders, miracles and signs that Jesus did during all that time. Jesus tells them that they can not believe because they are not His sheep, and because they are not his sheep they can not respond to the voice of His calling, even seeing things they never saw.
God has allowed us to be in the cote, do you know why? Because we are His sheep and we have heard His voice, we have answered His call and He has bandaged our wounds, put us on the way and made us new people by His mere grace.
Our good shepherd has given us eternal life, that is to say, that we will not perish and that no wolf can separate us from His hands, nor hell in all its fury, nothing at all can take us out of His hands!
Dear reader, we are in the best hands, and this means that we can be confident, sustained by the unshakable Rock that is Christ Jesus our beloved Lord.
