Sheep of the Lord

A sheepherder takes great care of his sheep, not only feeds them, but also guides them, bandages them when they are wounded or injured, takes them to rest and dwell in green pastures. A shepherd simply takes care of his sheep and in the same way God takes care of us, guides us and bandages us when we are hurt or injured. That is why the psalmist David said: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want”. It is good that today we understand the great significance of being the sheep of the Lord and that the Lord be our shepherd.

Jesus said:

27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

John 10:27-29

To the Pharisees and principals of the synagogues it was impossible for them to believe in the words of Jesus, they could not believe that He was the Christ or the Son of God, even seeing all the wonders, miracles and signs that Jesus did during all that time. Jesus tells them that they can not believe because they are not His sheep, and because they are not his sheep they can not respond to the voice of His calling, even seeing things they never saw.

God has allowed us to be in the cote, do you know why? Because we are His sheep and we have heard His voice, we have answered His call and He has bandaged our wounds, put us on the way and made us new people by His mere grace.

Our good shepherd has given us eternal life, that is to say, that we will not perish and that no wolf can separate us from His hands, nor hell in all its fury, nothing at all can take us out of His hands!

Dear reader, we are in the best hands, and this means that we can be confident, sustained by the unshakable Rock that is Christ Jesus our beloved Lord.

One of the greatest blessings of belonging to Christ is knowing that His care for us is not occasional, temporary, or dependent on our strength. The care of the Good Shepherd is constant, faithful and perfect. He not only calls us, He walks with us. He not only rescues us, He carries us when our own legs can no longer walk. He not only speaks to us, He restores our soul with His Word. Just as a shepherd knows each sheep by name, Jesus knows every detail of our lives—every tear, every fear, every wound, and every longing hidden in the heart. There is no safer place for the believer than under the tender and sovereign care of the Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep.

Moreover, the promise that “no one will snatch them out of my hand” is one of the most comforting truths in all of Scripture. Many believers fear the future, fear weakness, fear the attacks of the enemy, or fear their own instability. But Christ silences those fears with a divine assurance: our salvation and preservation are not in our hands, but in His. And His hands are omnipotent. His grip does not weaken, His love does not falter, and His faithfulness does not diminish. The sheep may stumble, may become weary, may even be wounded, but the Shepherd never abandons them. His hands—those same hands that were pierced on the cross—hold us firmly until the end. What power on earth or in hell could break the grip of the resurrected Christ?

Therefore, let us walk confidently, knowing that the One who guides us is greater than all dangers and stronger than any wolf that may arise. Let us listen attentively to His voice every day, because the sheep that hears the Shepherd finds rest, direction and life. And let us remember that this path is not sustained by our ability to remain firm, but by His promise to never let us go. If He is our Shepherd, then goodness and mercy will indeed follow us all the days of our lives, and we will dwell in His presence forever. Rest, beloved of God—your Shepherd does not sleep, does not abandon, and never fails.

I have hidden your word in my heart
Do not stop
