Be patient and pray

There are two spiritual disciplines that walk side by side in the life of every Christian believer, and these are “patience” and “prayer.” Both are essential, and one cannot properly function without the other. Without a doubt, Jesus urged His disciples to live a life of prayer. Why? The answer is simple and profound: “that ye enter not into temptation” (Matthew 26:41, KJV). When we neglect prayer, our hearts become vulnerable and we tend to fall quickly into attitudes, decisions, and behaviors that do not please God. However, when we maintain a life of constant prayer, we remind ourselves daily that everything must be placed in the hands of the Lord. Prayer shapes our hearts, strengthens our faith, and keeps us spiritually awake so that we may walk in obedience.

The Bible says in the Book of James 5:

7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

James 5:7–8

We have already written about prayer and its power in the Christian life, but patience is another essential virtue that must accompany our prayers and our walk with God. It is not enough to pray; we must also wait with faith and endurance. The apostle James tells us, “Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord.” There are many moments in life when we face family conflicts, spiritual battles, economic concerns, and all sorts of daily challenges. In those situations, we cry out to the Lord for help. But if we are honest, we often lose patience when the answer does not come as quickly as we expect. Yet this should not be the case. It is vital that we preserve patience until the day when our beloved Lord Jesus Christ is revealed.

To help us understand this, the apostle James gives the example of the farmer. The one who tills the earth does not sow today and harvest tomorrow. He must wait. He plants the seed, he cares for the soil, he trusts the process—but ultimately, the growth comes from God. The harvest requires time, the early rain, and the latter rain. Sometimes farmers lose part of the harvest through circumstances outside of their control. But despite that, they continue sowing, believing that one day the fruit will come.

In the same way, dear reader, we must be patient in the spiritual “profession” we have chosen—to follow Jesus Christ. We sow prayers, faithfulness, obedience, and good works, and even though we may not see immediate results, God is working in ways we cannot see. Someday, at the appointed time, we will reap what we have sown in Christ. Patience is not passive waiting; it is hopeful endurance rooted in trust that God keeps His promises.

Let us therefore continue patiently in the race of faith. The Christian journey is not a sprint but a marathon of perseverance. And when our Lord Jesus Christ appears, when He is manifested in glory before His people, we will enjoy a reward beyond comparison—an eternal glory that far surpasses all earthly suffering. Not everyone will partake of this glory, but those who endure in faith, prayer, and patience will see the Lord face to face and rejoice forever.

May patience and prayer remain the pillars of your daily walk with God. Continue steadfastly, for the coming of the Lord is near.

In the world where we live, Christians or other people we meet, in the family or elsewhere, are a cause of problems or troubles, which need to be solved or require us to act to find a solution. And while we wait for that solution, we must show patience and persevere in it.

Faith helps us in every situation, and prayer: both elements make us feel stronger because we wait for the power of God.

We are living in the time of God’s grace:
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,”
    (Titus 2:11)

Encouraged by this thought—that the grace of God has appeared—, by faith we can fight against any difficulty, whatever may come in our lives, knowing that our Lord is present, on our side, ready to defend us if our enemies want to hurt us. We must be patient, no matter what evil thing happens to us. We must pray to the Lord also in all our troubles.

So it is good for the people of God to remember this:
“You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”
    James 5:8

While we live here, the Devil will attack us or will put nets in our way so that we fall in sin; or people can disturb us otherwise. But the grace of God shall sustain us: yes, we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ who loved us. He is our refuge and fortress in the evil day.

All troubles and problems will work out because the Lord is coming: the apostle said the Lord is near. We are expected to put our needs in the hands of the Lord to solve them; therefore, let’s live by faith in the hope the Lord is coming. And the peace of God will be in our hearts.

We hope the Lord God will be with us at all moments of our lives, but we must be patient and pray, always waiting for Him
