Do not be wise in your own eyes

When we are wise in our own eyes, we believe that we are doing everything right, but the truth is that our human perception is extremely limited. We do not see the future, we cannot fully understand the heart of others, and we cannot anticipate the consequences of every decision. For that reason, being “wise in our own eyes” is one of the greatest deceptions a person can fall into. We are imperfect beings, fragile and easily misled by our emotions, our pride, and our own desires. Only God can give us the wisdom that truly helps us move forward with clarity and purpose, because His wisdom is perfect, eternal, and unchanging.

Many people pretend to walk in wisdom, but deep down their decisions are driven by selfish motives or by a desire for personal recognition. Some rely on their own strength when things go well, feeling confident and proud, but when the storms of life arrive, everything they built collapses. They say with arrogance: “I can do all things,” “No one can teach me,” “I need no help,” yet when adversity comes, their supposed wisdom vanishes. They become overwhelmed, ashamed, and defeated because the foundation of their life was their own understanding, not the wisdom that comes from God.

Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.

Proverbs 3:7

The person who is wise in his own eyes constantly walks in danger. He refuses counsel, rejects correction, and ignores the voice of God. He believes that humility is weakness, and therefore he never bows his heart before the Lord. But the Word teaches us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of true wisdom. To fear the Lord is to recognize His greatness, His holiness, His authority over our life, and our need to submit every thought, plan, and action to His will. When we shun evil and embrace the wisdom that comes from above, God Himself becomes our guide and protector.

This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

Proverbs 3:8

Divine wisdom is not only intellectual understanding; it brings peace to the heart, stability to the soul, and even strength to the body. When we walk in obedience and humility, trusting in God rather than in ourselves, our inner being is strengthened. Worry, pride, and anxiety disappear because we are resting in the One who knows all things. Just as medicine restores the body, so the wisdom of the Lord refreshes those who receive it.

Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;

Proverbs 3:9

Another expression of true wisdom is learning to honor God with everything we have. Our resources, our abilities, our opportunities—all of them come from Him. When we recognize this truth, our heart becomes grateful and generous. To honor God with our wealth is to acknowledge His lordship over our life. It means giving Him the best, not the leftovers, and living in such a way that everything we possess reflects His goodness and His provision.

then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Proverbs 3:10

Those who walk in wisdom, who fear the Lord and honor Him with their lives, discover that God is faithful to bless them in every season. This does not always mean material riches, but it does mean that God provides, sustains, and multiplies in ways human logic cannot explain. He opens doors no man can shut, He brings peace in the middle of storms, and He fills our hearts with joy that no circumstance can take away. Uprightness before God leads to a life marked by His favor, His guidance, and His abundant care.

You will pray to me, and I will listen to you
God does not ignore the cries of the afflicted
