We live in a world where evil grows daily more and more; we see the evil in our schools, universities, in the streets, at work, everywhere, we see people who have lost humanity, it is a total lack of control, it is like the world is collapsing, and it is really collapsing. What do we do as a people of God facing this reality?
This question becomes more relevant each day, because the signs of spiritual and moral decline are increasingly evident. Many families feel overwhelmed by the darkness that seems to cover society, and the influence of sin appears so strong that some even wonder if it is possible to live a holy life in such a corrupt world. Yet, the Bible reminds us that the people of God have always lived through complex times, and that His Word has always been the lamp that guides our steps. For this reason, more than ever, believers must return to the Scriptures with seriousness, dedication, and commitment.
We must take the Bible and teach it to our families, take ownership and control, because this society is on the way to decline and we must preach the Bible. The psalmist could understand this and that’s why he wrote:
35 Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.
36 Turn my heart toward your statutes
and not toward selfish gain.
37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
preserve my life according to your word.
Psalm 119:35-37
These verses reveal a deep cry of the human heart, a desire to remain firm despite the distractions and temptations of the world. The psalmist knew that only by walking in the path of God’s commands could he find true delight. In our times, when everything around us seems unstable, the Scriptures continue to be the safest place where we can anchor our minds and hearts.
We must take the Bible in hand and ask God to guide us through His Word, to help us to do God’s will, which is good and perfect. That in the midst of a society with as many calamities as this one helps us to put our eyes where we have to put them: “The will of God”.
The people of God throughout history faced similar situations. Noah lived in a generation completely corrupted, yet he walked with God. Daniel lived in the midst of a pagan empire, but he decided in his heart not to contaminate himself. Elijah confronted kings, false prophets, and a whole nation that had turned its back on God. And what was the common factor in all these stories? They remained firm because their strength did not come from society, nor from the circumstances around them, but from God Himself. Today, that same strength is available to us.
There were men of God in the Bible who also lived in the midst of many sins, yet they stood firm in God, because their strength came from the heavens and that is the same God that we serve, which is powerful to keep us firm until the day of His coming.
This gives us hope. Even though the world continues to fall into moral decay, the church is called not to conform but to shine. Every believer must understand that God placed us in this generation with a purpose: to be light, to be salt, and to be living testimonies of His Word. Teaching our families, strengthening our homes, and walking according to the statutes of the Lord becomes not only a responsibility but a necessity for survival in a spiritual sense.
Beloved brothers, may our prayer be the same as that of the psalmist, may next year be a blessing to our lives and may we draw closer and closer to God.
Let us pray that God strengthens our hearts, opens our understanding, and renews our passion for His Word. Each new day is an opportunity to trust Him more, depend on Him more, and live for His glory in the midst of a world that desperately needs the light of Christ. And as we move forward, may our families see in us the testimony of a people who, though surrounded by darkness, continue to walk with conviction, knowing that our hope is in the Lord.
