Riches do not endure forever

Riches can be the worst of evils, but these can also be good to help your family and people who are in precariousness. However, these may end, so there is a well-known phrase that may have been taken from the proverbs, which says: “Nothing lasts forever.”

There are many presumptuous people in this world who, when they reach a certain economic position, forget the poor mass, thinking that those riches will last them forever or they will take something away after their death. Friends, nothing we have is eternal, remember the case of Job, he had all the riches you could have, plus a stable family and good health, however, in the blink of an eye everything he had it was taken away, why? Because everything in this life can be finished and we must be prepared for this.

The proverbial said:

Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring.

Proverbs 27:1

There are many people who live with some boasting for their acquired goods, but this should not be a reason for boasting, but we should know that the things of this life are temporary, and that we should not trample on others, because certainly in a tomorrow we can also need them.

On the other hand, the proverb also says:

23 Be sure you know the condition of your flocks,
give careful attention to your herds;

24 for riches do not endure forever,
and a crown is not secure for all generations.

25 When the hay is removed and new growth appears
and the grass from the hills is gathered in,

26 the lambs will provide you with clothing,
and the goats with the price of a field.

27 You will have plenty of goats’ milk to feed your family
and to nourish your female servants.

Proverbs 27:23-27

The Bible also commands us to keep what we have, because nothing lasts for ever. We can not spend and spend without thinking about what can happen tomorrow, yes, the fortunes are exhausted, since that is not an eternal value, and for this same reason we must be wise enough for when the difficult days come we have on what to sustain ourselves.

When we meditate on these teachings, we realize that the Scriptures not only warn us about the instability of wealth but also invite us to cultivate a heart of humility and stewardship. Riches, although useful, are not a firm foundation. They can vanish suddenly due to illness, disasters, economic crisis or simple human error. Job’s story is the perfect reminder of how fragile earthly possessions are. One day he enjoyed abundance, and the next day he faced profound loss. Yet even in that trial he learned that the true treasure is not what we hold in our hands, but the God who sustains our lives.

That is why we are encouraged to live with gratitude and responsibility. Knowing the condition of our “flocks” in biblical times referred to managing one’s resources wisely. Today it points to being conscious of our finances, decisions, priorities and even the spiritual condition of our hearts. Good stewardship is not stinginess; it is understanding that everything we receive has a purpose beyond our own comfort. We use what God allows us to have to bless our home, to plan for the future, and to extend a hand to those in need.

Likewise, recognizing that riches do not endure forever helps us place our hope in something unshakeable. When our trust is exclusively in wealth, fear quickly takes control, because we know deep inside that money can disappear. But when our trust is in God, we walk with peace, because He is the only source that does not run dry. The call of Proverbs is not merely financial wisdom; it is a spiritual invitation to reorder our priorities according to divine truth.

Therefore, let us live with prudence, generosity and awareness. Enjoy what you have, take care of it, and use it for good, but never let it replace the One who provides it. Everything may fade, but the wisdom of God endures forever.

Turn your ear to my words
Better a little with righteousness
