Are you beginning in Christianity? Are you forty years old being a Christian? Well, whether you are new in the faith or have walked with the Lord for decades, you must know this truth: the only thing that can keep us standing is the hand of God. It is not that we are strong, nor that we have a lot of knowledge or spiritual experience. The reality is that to survive in a generation like this—a world full of confusion, temptation, and spiritual opposition—we must be guided, strengthened, and sustained by the hand of Almighty God.
Are you dejected? Have you been fighting with your own strength during this long walk? If so, through this writing I urge you to hold firmly to the powerful hands of God. The people of Israel are a faithful example of this. When they tried to fight with their own strength, they failed miserably. But when they placed all their trust in God, victory was always in their hands. The same applies to us: our hope must be in our Creator and not in ourselves. Human strength fails, but divine strength never does.
The Bible teaches:
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the Lord upholds him with His hand.25 I have been young, and now am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his descendants begging bread.Psalm 37:23-25
God is the All of man. Without God we cannot do anything—not even the simplest task. His hands sustain us, guide us, protect us, and strengthen us. But for this to happen, we must stop trusting in our own abilities. Many times we fall because we rely too much on ourselves and too little on God. The psalmist reminds us that God delights in ordering the steps of His children. He leads them, redirects them, and protects their path from destruction.
The psalmist speaks here of something very important. He says: “Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.” This is the essence of the Christian journey. When we fall—and we will—our failure does not define us. What matters is who lifts us up. When we fall, we understand that we are weak human beings, incapable of reaching the finish line by ourselves. But when God takes us by the hand, there are no limits. With God, every failure becomes a lesson, every tear becomes strength, and every weakness becomes a testimony of His power.
The psalmist adds: “Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.” This is a powerful reminder that God does not forsake the righteous. He does not forget those who put their trust in Him. Even when circumstances look dark, even when we feel alone, God remains faithful. Hope in God never shames, never disappoints, and never fails.
Therefore, let us place our whole heart in God. Let us surrender our fears, our failures, and our future to Him. Let us walk confidently knowing that the hand sustaining us is the same hand that created the heavens and the earth. If we cling to Him, He will never abandon us. Our beloved Creator walks with us, strengthens us, and leads us to victory. In Him—and only in Him—we remain standing.
