Reaching riches, good position, good economic and social status is the dream of virtually all human on this earth, living comfortably, who does not want to live without scarcity? We all want to live a quiet life, without worries. More, how bad it is when those riches come and we forget that all we have is a loan that God has made us and that someday we will not be able to enjoy it.
There are very rich people in this world, so rich that they have already lost the sum of how much they have in the bank, however, some of these people find it hard to help the needy, which would not create any imbalance in their finances and here is where this becomes a deep love of money, and Jesus said that no one can serve two masters, because they will love one and hate the other, and this refers to the love of money.
There is a famous saying that says: “Everything that goes up has to come down”. So, just as money comes into our hands, it can go, and if we have the opportunity to do something good with what we have, then we should not stop doing it.
Martin Luther, a hero of the Christian faith, was characterized by helping those most in need, often, he was left with nothing to help others.
The apostle Paul said:
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.
8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
1 Timothy 6:6-8
We could make a section talking about this, since the Bible speaks on more than one occasion. Jesus emphasized this, the proverbs also and here the apostle Paul. And how not to remember those words that Job spoke in his great calamity: Naked I came out of the womb of my mother and naked I will return there, the Lord gave, the Lord removed, be His blessed name.
This we must have very clear, we have not brought anything to this world and certainly we will take nothing with us. We should be happy if we have shelter and sustenance, giving thanks to God, without complaining, because remember, there are people who do not even have that and if we can also be a blessing for those people, let’s do it!
When we meditate deeply on these truths, we recognize how fragile and temporary material possessions really are. Wealth can offer comfort, but it can never replace peace, joy, or the assurance that only God gives. Many chase riches thinking they will find fulfillment, yet end up feeling empty because true contentment is not rooted in what we own, but in whom we trust. This is why the Bible consistently reminds us that our hearts must not cling to earthly treasures, for where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.
The danger is not in possessing resources, but in allowing those resources to possess us. When our decisions, priorities, and even relationships begin to revolve around money, we slowly drift away from the purpose God designed for us. Jesus Himself warned that the deceitfulness of riches can choke the Word, preventing it from bearing fruit in our lives. Therefore, learning to hold material things with open hands becomes an act of worship and obedience.
It is also important to remember that generosity is one of the greatest antidotes to greed. When we choose to share what God has entrusted to us, we reflect His character. The early church lived under this principle: they blessed each other, supported the weak, and ensured that no one among them lacked basic needs. This lifestyle did not impoverish them; instead, it became a testimony of God’s love and provision.
Every believer should ask themselves: What am I doing with what God has placed in my hands? Am I building a life centered on possessions or on God’s will? These questions invite us to self-examination and to align our hearts with eternal values. Ultimately, a life surrendered to God, marked by gratitude and generosity, becomes richer than any earthly treasure.
So, let us not cling to what is temporary. Let us use wisely what God has given us, bless others whenever we can, and remember each day that our greatest wealth is to know Christ and to walk faithfully in His ways. Everything else is secondary and will one day fade, but the fruits of a grateful and generous heart will endure forever.
