The work of the Holy Spirit

Jesus left, but He did not leave us alone, but instead He left us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit who will be with us until the end.

But the Holy Spirit will not only be with us for company, but He will also be carrying out a work on earth, and Jesus clearly explains in the book of John what that work of the Holy Spirit would be in this world:

7 But I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.

9 Of sin, because they do not believe in Me;

10 of righteousness, because I go to the Father and you see Me no more;

11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

John 16:7-11

Our task is to preach the gospel, but the Holy Spirit is the one who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. It is the Holy Spirit who leads a person to repentance and opens their spiritual eyes so that they may finally discern what the will of God is.

Our duty as believers and people transformed by Christ is to preach the Word of God. Then the Holy Spirit is the one who works in the hearts of sinners and brings them to repentance. It is not necessary to use human methods or marketing strategies to attract souls. Jesus did not have to do that; He only had to preach the Word.

Therefore, instead of creating strategies to use methods that attempt to fit the desires of this world in order to attract crowds, it is better for us to preach the message that is written in the Bible, without adding to it or taking anything away, and allow the Holy Spirit Himself to be the one who works in the lives of people.

The Comforter not only guides us into truth, but also strengthens believers in the midst of trials. Many times the Christian finds themselves facing situations that seem impossible to endure, but it is there where the Holy Spirit acts by bringing peace, reminding us of Christ’s promises, and giving us the conviction that we are not alone in the battle. He is the one who transforms human weaknesses into opportunities to glorify God.

Furthermore, we must understand that the Holy Spirit equips us to live a holy life. Without His help it would be impossible to overcome temptations and walk in obedience to the commandments of God. The Spirit reminds us of the Word, convicts us when we fail, and urges us to seek a deeper fellowship with the Lord. In this way, He becomes a constant ally who works from within, shaping our character according to Christ.

It is also important to recognize that the Holy Spirit gives gifts to each believer for the edification of the church. Not everyone has the same gift, but all are useful in the body of Christ. Preaching, teaching, serving, praying, counseling, comforting—each function has eternal value when it is guided by the Spirit. When we allow Him to direct our lives, the church grows in unity and in spiritual power, fulfilling its purpose of being a light in the midst of darkness.

Conclusion

The Holy Spirit is the greatest promise that Jesus left us before ascending to the Father. He is the one who guides us, strengthens us, convicts us, and transforms us so that we may live according to the divine will. Our responsibility is to faithfully preach the gospel, without adding or taking away, and to trust that the Comforter will do the work in the hearts of people. Let us not depend on human strategies, but on the power of God. The Holy Spirit continues to act today, and He will remain the guarantee that the church stands firm until the day of the coming of Christ.
