It is important to remember that in biblical times, the righteous often received little recognition or attention from the world around them. Because of this reality, a strong and heartfelt call arose from the psalmist David, urging all who loved God to continue walking faithfully and steadily on the path of the Lord. David knew that living righteously in a world filled with corruption, injustice, and moral compromise was not easy, yet he encouraged God’s people to remain steadfast in their commitment to holiness and obedience.
In chapter 37 of the book of Psalms, we find one of David’s most beautiful and practical exhortations to those who choose to follow the right path. He gives clear advice: do not grow weary, do not be discouraged, and do not envy the temporary success of those who walk in sin. According to the psalmist, all transgressors—that is, all who rebel against God and refuse to turn from their wickedness—will ultimately perish. Their apparent prosperity is only temporary, and those who support or celebrate the advancement of evil will also face destruction.
This is why the psalmist David speaks with such firmness and conviction in the following verse, offering a powerful reminder and encouragement to the righteous:
But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. Psalm 37:38
When we consider what was happening in David’s time—the rise of injustice, the advancement of wicked men, and the discouragement that many righteous people felt—it becomes clear why he spoke with such urgency. David wanted every man and woman of God to understand that they must continue forward, even when it appears that the wicked are advancing without restraint. He reminded them that God sees everything, and although judgment may seem slow to come, it is certain and unavoidable. The prosperity of the wicked is like grass: it flourishes for a moment, but soon withers away.
In our own day, the situation is not much different. We see many people openly supporting the intentions and actions of the evil man. Society often justifies wicked behavior, celebrates immoral lifestyles, and rewards corrupt actions. Doors are opened wide so that evil may continue to prosper, and many seem blind to the consequences of such choices. But let me tell you with confidence: this will not last long. Just as Scripture promises, the wicked will be destroyed, and everything they have built on lies and injustice will eventually collapse. God’s judgment is sure, and nothing escapes His hand.
Brothers and sisters, let us give thanks to the Lord, for He is the One who has sustained us, protected us, and guided us through every season of life. He has extended His hand to rescue us, to offer us His salvation, and to come to our aid whenever we have called upon Him. Even when the world seems dark, even when evil appears to triumph, we can trust fully in God’s perfect justice and unchanging faithfulness.
Therefore, let us not lose heart. Let us continue trusting in the Lord whether or not we understand everything that is happening around us. Our hope is not in the temporary prosperity of this world but in the eternal promises of our God. The righteous may suffer for a moment, but their reward is everlasting. The wicked may seem to flourish today, but their end is sure. So stand firm, remain faithful, and continue walking in the light of the Lord, knowing that He will never abandon His people.
