Micah chapter 2 condemns the greed and oppression of the Lord’s people. It focuses especially on the rich who seize the land and property of others. Therefore, the prophet Micah speaks words of confrontation.
In chapters 2-5, we can clearly see why Micah denounces those who sought to seize lands and possessions: their hearts were far from the Lord, demonstrating that their gaze and desire were focused on material goods, which they sought only for themselves.
Because of this great evil and the oppression they exercised on the poor, the Lord would bring upon them a punishment they could not avoid. They would not be able to rise up with pride, for they would be humbled by the Lord.
The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the Lord on the head of them.
Micah 2:13
It is important to note that every confrontation the prophet addresses to the rich who sought to seize lands and riches is intended to announce God’s judgment upon them.
This teaches us that God fights for the poor and the righteous, and that He is always attentive to those who seek to appropriate the fruits of the labor of the humble.
He who goes before you is the Lord. He alone will guard you and make a path before you. He will be your protection at all times. Do not be distressed by how much wealth the rich man has accumulated; wait for the Lord, and He will judge every oppressor before you.
