It must be recognized that the wicked obtain many ill-gotten benefits and that at the moment they laugh and enjoy it, but they also know that their calamity is coming, and no one can stop this, since it is judgment from the Lord.
This is a warning against the laziness and falsehood that reigns in countless hearts today. Calamity will soon fall on these and they will pay for their actions; They will be punished because their hearts and minds are set on doing evil.
Solomon speaks about the characteristic of the man who is perverse and evil, the one whose thoughts are astray. This is the sinful way of the evil man.
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

The characteristics used by Solomon are very clear: the man who is lazy does not want to work with dignity, rather have everything easy, and this is a very useless way for such a man. But everything takes a big turn because his thoughts are evil.
A man with a perverse mouth, because from his mouth come disorganized words full of fragments that cause very strong and destructive injuries.
The wicked man will be greatly punished; calamity will fall suddenly on him and he will be broken because of his corruption and the damage done. For such minds there will be no remedy.
When Solomon describes the sudden calamity of the wicked, he is pointing to a divine principle that is repeated throughout Scripture: evil may prosper for a season, but it never escapes the justice of God. The apparent success of the wicked is temporary, fleeting, and deceptive. Many see their wealth, influence, or power and believe they are secure, but the Word of God teaches that their foundation is unstable and destined to collapse.
This passage also confronts the sin of laziness, which is not merely a lack of physical effort but a condition of the heart. The lazy man despises discipline, avoids responsibility, and seeks gain without sacrifice. Such an attitude opens the door to deception, dishonesty, and injustice. Solomon connects laziness with perversity of thought, revealing that outward behavior reflects inward corruption. A heart that refuses instruction will eventually produce actions that harm others. This is why the wicked man is portrayed as someone whose words wound and destroy. His mouth becomes an instrument of chaos, spreading lies, discord, and pain wherever he goes.
The perverse mouth mentioned here is not limited to insults or slander; it includes manipulation, false promises, and deceptive speech. Words have power, and when they are used with evil intent, they can devastate families, communities, and even nations. Solomon warns that such speech is evidence of a corrupt heart that is far from the fear of the Lord.
The suddenness of the calamity described is particularly striking. The wicked do not expect judgment to arrive so quickly. They assume there will always be time to escape consequences or change their ways later. Yet Scripture repeatedly emphasizes that judgment can come without warning, catching the unrepentant by surprise.
This truth serves as a sober reminder that no one should mock God or presume upon His patience. The delay of judgment is not the absence of judgment. God’s mercy gives opportunity for repentance, but when that mercy is rejected, justice follows. For the wicked man who refuses correction, there is no remedy because he has closed his heart to truth.
For the righteous, this passage is both a warning and a comfort. It warns against adopting the ways of the wicked, envying their prosperity, or compromising integrity for short-term gain. At the same time, it comforts those who walk uprightly, assuring them that God sees injustice and will act in His perfect time.
Therefore, this teaching calls every reader to examine their own heart. Are our thoughts aligned with righteousness, or are they drifting toward deceit and selfish ambition? Do our words build up, or do they wound and divide? Solomon’s wisdom urges us to choose diligence, truth, and humility before the Lord.
In the end, the path of wickedness leads to sudden destruction, while the path of righteousness leads to life, stability, and peace. Let us heed this warning, walk in wisdom, and place our trust not in fleeting gain, but in the enduring justice and mercy of God.
