The book of Luke tells us a wonderful story about the birth of Jesus, a story filled with miracle, grace, and divine purpose. It is the account of how God intervened in human history in an extraordinary way, choosing a humble young woman to carry in her womb the Savior of the world. This was not only a supernatural event, but also a profound privilege, showing how God works through those who are willing to trust Him.
Luke presents this narrative with great detail and sensitivity, emphasizing both the divine initiative and the human response. God did not choose Mary because of status, wealth, or influence, but because of her humility and faith. Through this story, we learn that God often accomplishes His greatest works through ordinary people who are willing to submit to His will.
That is why the title of this article highlights a powerful truth: things that are difficult, and even impossible for human beings, are entirely possible for God. Mary was confronted with a situation that went beyond human logic and understanding. When the angel Gabriel appeared to her and announced that she would conceive and give birth to a son, her first reaction was not rebellion, but honest astonishment.
The reason for her surprise was clear. God had chosen Mary, a virgin, to carry the Savior in her womb. This was something she could not comprehend at first, not because she lacked faith, but because the message defied every natural law she knew. Her question did not come from disbelief, but from a desire to understand how God would accomplish such a thing.
To this divine call, Mary responded with sincerity and humility, asking: “How will this be possible?” For a young woman who had not known a man, the idea of becoming pregnant without being married seemed unimaginable. Yet Mary did not dismiss the message; instead, she listened carefully to the angel’s explanation.

The angel spoke of a woman named Elizabeth, who was advanced in age and had been barren for many years. Humanly speaking, her situation was hopeless. Yet God intervened, and she conceived a son.
Elizabeth’s pregnancy served as a sign for Mary. If God could give life to a barren womb, He could certainly bring about the miraculous conception of the Messiah. These two women, though very different in age and circumstance, were united by the same divine power and promise.
After Mary heard that Elizabeth had conceived a son, her perspective completely changed. Fear gave way to faith, confusion turned into surrender, and uncertainty became obedience. She responded with one of the most beautiful expressions of submission found in Scripture: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.”
This response reveals Mary’s heart. She did not fully understand everything that would happen, nor did she know the difficulties she would face. She would experience misunderstanding, rejection, and sorrow. Yet she trusted God completely. True faith does not require full understanding; it requires surrender to God’s will.
Mary’s example teaches us an important lesson about obedience. God’s plans often disrupt our expectations and challenge our comfort. However, when we trust Him, His purposes unfold in ways that bring glory to His name and blessing to our lives. Mary’s willingness became part of God’s redemptive plan for all humanity.
This enormous story reminds us that when God speaks, He also provides the power to fulfill what He promises. His word never returns empty. The same God who worked in the lives of Mary and Elizabeth continues to work today, accomplishing His purposes in ways that surpass human understanding.
Many times, we face situations in our own lives that seem impossible. Financial hardship, illness, broken relationships, unanswered prayers, and deep fears can cause us to doubt. Yet this passage reminds us that God is not constrained by our circumstances. What seems impossible to us is fully within His power.
Just as God blessed these two women, He can also act in your life. His power has not diminished, and His promises have not changed. The same God who brought life from barrenness and hope from impossibility is still at work among His people.
Therefore, when you are faced with something that seems too difficult, remember this truth: for God it is possible. Place your trust in Him, surrender your fears, and respond as Mary did—with humility and obedience. God delights in honoring faith that rests fully in Him.
