Don’t be like the adulterous woman

Next we will see a proverb that comes from some words of Agur that contain a lot of wisdom just like Solomon. In this proverb we could make a reference to any adulterous person, although the text gives a woman as an example:

Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.

Proverbs 30:20

This verse talks about adultery, and by “eating, wiping his mouth and saying “I have done no wrong””, we could understand that it refers to a person who commits the sin of adultery without any remorse and goes on with his life as if nothing happened. This is something that greatly surprises the author of this proverb, and you can see it if you look at the previous verses:

18 There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:

19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.

Proverbs 30:18-19

What is the relationship between the eagle, the serpent, the ship and the adulterous people? That in their actions the eagle, the serpent and the ship do not sin by doing what is described in the previous verses, but an unfaithful person and whoever is committing that sin with that person, do wrong and God is watching them from heaven, they do it and continue their lives as if they will have no consequences in the future.

Adultery is a very strong sin, which can destroy entire families. Do not be like the adulterous woman of Proverbs 30:20, ask God for help and flee from that sin.

...
Forsake me not, O Lord
They will perish in their own corruption
