The Bible says that Jesus leaving the place where he was, and crossing to the other side in a boat together with his disciples, a great storm arose, and there was great fear among them and so much so that they had to wake up the Master so that he could save them. .
It is evident why Jesus called them “men of little faith”, the Master always taught them about faith and how they should act. A phenomenon of this magnitude is very hard and that is why Jesus told them that they should have faith.
Like the disciples, Jesus calls us to have faith, because faith is what sustains us and helps us fight our struggles, to achieve great things in Christ Jesus.
And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
Matthew 8:26
This great storm which Matthew presents to us in the previous verse, and which was calmed by the Master, Jesus makes it clear to us that we can overcome our fears with faith, there are great situations that arise and whip our lives, to these Jesus tells us that they Let’s face it and have faith so that they can calm down.
So, Jesus commands you to get up and have faith when these harsh storms arise, because remember that the Master is by your side and tells you: Get up, be brave and rebuke that great storm that attacks you.
This biblical account is not only a historical event, but also a powerful spiritual lesson for all believers. The storm that arose on the sea represents the trials, problems, and adversities that suddenly appear in our lives. Many times, these storms come when we are obeying the Lord, just as the disciples were following Jesus when the storm surprised them.
Fear took hold of the disciples because they looked at the size of the storm and not at the power of the One who was with them in the boat. In the same way, many believers today focus more on the magnitude of their problems than on the greatness of Christ. When fear dominates the heart, faith weakens, and doubts begin to grow.
Jesus sleeping during the storm teaches us an important truth: even when it seems that God is silent, He is still in control. The Master was not unaware of what was happening; He allowed the situation to test and strengthen the faith of His disciples. God often permits storms so that we may learn to trust Him more deeply.
When the disciples cried out to Jesus, He responded with authority. His words silenced the winds and calmed the sea instantly. This shows us that there is no storm too strong, no problem too difficult, and no situation too chaotic that Christ cannot resolve. His power is absolute over every circumstance.
Faith does not mean the absence of storms, but the assurance that Jesus is present in the midst of them. True faith allows us to remain firm even when everything around us seems unstable. It gives us peace in moments of uncertainty and confidence in the promises of God.
Today, many people face storms such as illness, financial difficulties, family conflicts, and spiritual struggles. These situations can cause fear and anxiety if we do not place our trust in the Lord. Just as Jesus rebuked the storm on the sea, He can also bring calm to our hearts when we trust Him fully.
The call of Jesus remains the same for us today: do not be afraid, have faith. He invites us to rise above fear and believe that He is able to act in our favor. Even when the waves seem overwhelming, the presence of Christ gives us hope and strength to continue.
Let us remember that faith grows when it is exercised. Each storm we overcome with trust in God strengthens our spiritual life. Instead of complaining or despairing, we should turn to prayer and confidence in the Lord, knowing that He will bring calm in His perfect time.
May this passage encourage us to trust Jesus more deeply, to rely on His power, and to remain steadfast in faith. No matter how fierce the storm may be, the Master is in the boat with us, ready to speak peace and bring calm to every situation we face.
