I spread out my hands to You

Next we will see a supplication of the Psalmist David to God, so that he would lead in the decisions that he would take, because without God’s guidance he could do nothing.

David asked God to extend His hands to be delivered from those people who day after day stood up to fight against him. That is why God did not let him fall into the hands of his enemies, but in each battle he gave him victory.

When we carefully analyze the life of David, we realize that he was a man constantly surrounded by conflicts, persecutions, and moments of deep anguish. However, despite his experience as a warrior and leader, David never trusted in his own strength. His greatest confidence was always placed in the Lord, knowing that human wisdom without divine direction is insufficient.

David understood that every decision, whether in times of peace or in the middle of conflict, needed the guidance of God. That is why his prayer was sincere and humble, recognizing his dependence on the Almighty. This attitude teaches us that no matter how capable we believe ourselves to be, we will always need the direction of God to walk safely.

I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.

Psalm 143:6

With this expression we would come to understand that God was not paying attention to David, but it was not so, because David did it because He felt to do it this way.

David’s thirst was strong, a longing to feel that His presence was with him, that he was not alone. God’s support was so visible that God manifested himself to David in a very powerful way.

The image David uses is very powerful: a dry and thirsty land. Just as the land desperately needs rain to survive, David’s soul needed the presence of God. This thirst was not material or emotional alone; it was spiritual. David longed for communion with God, knowing that only His presence could bring peace and strength to his troubled heart.

In the same way, many believers experience moments of spiritual dryness, where trials, worries, and fears seem overwhelming. During those moments, it is essential to stretch our hands toward God, acknowledging our need for Him and seeking His presence with sincerity.

Hear me speedily, O Lord: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.

Psalm 143:7

David’s thirst for God was so great that he asked for an answer because of his great need. David, receiving so many attacks from his enemies, had his spirit was dejected. God came in his help and strengthened him.

Sometimes it is not that God hides his face, but that He allows you to go through bad times for Him to glorify in a great way. Remember that the Lord is not late, He is at the right time.

David was honest before God about his condition. He did not hide his weakness or pretend to be strong. Instead, he openly confessed that his spirit was failing. This teaches us that God values sincere prayers, prayers that come from a broken and humble heart.

There are moments in life when it feels as though God is silent. However, silence does not mean absence. Many times, God allows difficult seasons to shape our character, strengthen our faith, and prepare us for greater victories. His timing is perfect, even when we do not understand it.

Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Psalm 143:8

In verse 8 David asks God to continue directing him day after day, to be able to hear of his mercies every morning, and that the path he walked was a path where God agreed. David’s trust was God, for David there was no one else to trust, only in God.

David desired to begin each day hearing about God’s lovingkindness. This reflects a heart that depended daily on divine grace. He did not rely on past experiences alone, but sought fresh guidance every morning. For David, walking in the correct path meant walking according to God’s will.

This prayer is a reminder that trust in God must be renewed every day. Each new morning is an opportunity to seek His guidance, His mercy, and His direction. When we lift our souls to Him, we acknowledge that our lives belong to Him and that He alone knows the way we should walk.

Let us trust Him, to Him let us give all our cry, because He comes at the right time. God does not let you die in the midst of war, He is watching you. Sometimes God wants to see our cry, that we pray to Him, that we say that we are thirsty as expressed by the psalmist David.

May this supplication of David encourage us to seek God with the same intensity, to trust Him completely, and to wait patiently for His guidance, knowing that He never abandons those who cry out to Him with a sincere heart.

Sinners, cleanse your hands
Look at my affliction that I suffer, have mercy on me
