God lifts up the humble and casts the wicked down to the ground

Oh brothers, let us be calm and convinced that the mercy and great goodness of God will walk after us every day. Follow humility in the ways of the Lord, because our God is pleased with this.

To walk calmly before God does not mean to live without trials or challenges, but to remain confident that His mercy surrounds us in every circumstance. The believer who understands the goodness of God learns to rest in Him, knowing that the Lord never abandons those who trust in His name. Humility is essential in this walk, because it aligns our hearts with God’s will and keeps us dependent on His guidance rather than our own understanding.

God himself exalts the humble, he helps them at all times, but what will become of those impious who are haughty? The Bible tells us the following about the wicked:

The Lord lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

Psalms 147:6

This passage reveals a timeless truth: God actively intervenes in the lives of the humble, while the proud eventually face downfall. The meek are not those who are weak, but those who submit their strength to God and trust in His authority. When a person humbles himself before the Lord, he opens the door for divine help, correction, and blessing. God’s exaltation is always just and perfect, unlike human recognition which is temporary and often misleading.

God’s mercies and goodness are for the humble. Those who have no mercy only await punishment and perpetual damnation if they do not repent of their actions.

Mercy is evidence of a heart that has been touched by God. When a person refuses to show mercy, it often reveals pride and hardness of heart. Scripture repeatedly warns that pride leads to destruction, while repentance opens the door to forgiveness. God is always willing to forgive, but He requires a humble spirit that recognizes sin and seeks His grace. Without repentance, the proud continue on a path that separates them from the life God desires to give.

The entire Bible teaches us that God is with those who are humble but stays away from the haughty. These haughty, although they seem to prosper in this world, will have no part or lot in the promised land reserved for those who walked straight before God.

Earthly prosperity can easily deceive the heart. Many people measure success by wealth, influence, or status, but these things do not reflect spiritual health. Those who walk in pride may appear successful for a season, yet their end is empty without God. True prosperity is found in obedience, faithfulness, and communion with the Lord. The humble may face hardships, but they carry the assurance that God walks with them and prepares an eternal inheritance for them.

Humility also teaches us to listen and to be corrected. A humble heart is willing to accept instruction from God’s word and correction from His discipline. Pride resists correction and relies on human wisdom, which leads to spiritual blindness. When we humble ourselves, we grow in wisdom, patience, and understanding, allowing God to shape our character according to His purpose.

The Lord desires that His people reflect His character, and humility is a central part of that calling. Jesus Himself demonstrated humility by serving others and submitting to the will of the Father. As followers of Christ, we are called to walk in the same spirit, serving one another in love and placing God above all else.

Let us praise God for his marvelous goodness, let us ask him to help us remain humble before him, because everyone who walks disorderly before the Lord will be humiliated.

May our daily prayer be that God would guard our hearts against pride and self-exaltation. Let us seek humility in our thoughts, our words, and our actions, remembering that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. As we walk humbly before the Lord, trusting in His mercy and goodness, we can be confident that He will lift us up in His perfect time and guide us in the path of righteousness.
