Hate the evil, and love the good

The biblical passage on which this article is based speaks of the judgment that would fall on Israel for turning its back on the Lord.

At that time of the prophet Amos, this man carried the voice of God to the people of Israel, since the people had a disorder and did not obey the commands of the Lord, that is why judgment was coming against them from the Lord for their disobedience.

Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

Amos 5:15

The Lord commanded the people to turn from their evil ways, to stop disobedience and return to the Lord, because they were on the offensive, their defeat was so clear that they could not even go to war because the losses were so great.

That is why in the verse that we saw previously, God commands them to hate evil and love good, and that they could establish God’s justice in judgment, because it is clear that in this way they could receive mercy from the Lord.

This passage teaches us that if we stray from the ways of the Lord, it will happen to us like the people of Israel. Let us seek our God always and turn our hearts away from evil.
