Although mockery comes from people who do not know the faithful word of God, we must remain confident in the Lord, trusting firmly that mockery will not stop us from fulfilling the purpose that God has for our lives. Throughout Scripture, we see that those who walk in obedience to God are often misunderstood, ridiculed, or even persecuted. This reality should not surprise the believer, because the values of the kingdom of God are radically opposed to the values of this fallen world. Nevertheless, the child of God is called to persevere, to stand firm, and to remain faithful even when surrounded by contempt and rejection.
“They made fun of me a lot, but I did not turn from Your ways.” These words express the heart of a true servant of God, a man who clearly understood who had chosen him and whom he ultimately served. This was not a weak or wavering individual, but someone deeply rooted in the fear of the Lord. This man was anointed king while still herding sheep in the fields, long before the promise was fulfilled. Despite years of waiting, trials, and humiliation, he never abandoned the ways of God. His perseverance is a testimony that obedience to God is not dependent on circumstances, approval, or recognition from others.
This statement reflects the experience of many believers who sincerely seek to honor God. Mockery often comes from those who do not understand spiritual realities or who reject divine authority. The world may laugh at holiness, ridicule righteousness, and despise obedience, but these reactions do not change the truth of God’s Word. The faithful servant of God learns to value divine approval over human applause. He understands that pleasing God is worth more than being accepted by men.
Even if the proud mock you, or if society stands against the good and righteous path you have chosen, follow the example set before us in Scripture. Do not stray from the path of the Lord. Do not allow ridicule to weaken your faith or cause you to compromise your convictions. The proud often exalt themselves above God, trusting in their own wisdom, strength, or achievements. Yet Scripture consistently teaches that pride leads to destruction, while humility before God leads to life and blessing.
The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law.

These words reveal a heart firmly anchored in the law of the Lord. The psalmist does not deny the reality of mockery; he openly acknowledges it. The proud did not simply mock him lightly—they held him in great derision. And yet, despite the intensity of their scorn, he did not abandon God’s law. This verse teaches us that faithfulness is not proven when life is easy, but when obedience is maintained in the face of opposition.
The believer who truly loves the Word of God understands that obedience is not conditional. It is not dependent on comfort, popularity, or success. Instead, obedience flows from a heart that trusts God completely. The psalmist knew that God’s commandments were righteous, good, and life-giving, regardless of how others responded to his devotion. This same mindset must be cultivated in every generation of believers.
Do not worry because the world makes fun of you. The world mocked the prophets, rejected the apostles, and crucified the Son of God Himself. Mockery has always been one of the tools used against those who speak truth and live righteously. However, mockery does not have the final word. God does. Those who persist in ridiculing righteousness without repentance will face a serious and sobering reality on the day of final judgment.
Scripture reminds us that God is just and that He will judge every heart. Those who mock the faithful today may appear successful or influential, but their laughter is temporary. If they do not repent and turn to God, their end will be sorrowful. This truth should not produce pride in the believer, but compassion and prayer. Even those who mock us are in desperate need of the grace of God.
Do not let the words of the Lord depart from your heart. Do not allow discouragement, ridicule, or pressure to silence your love for Scripture. The Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. When everything around us seems unstable, God’s Word remains firm and unchanging. It is through the Scriptures that God strengthens His people, comforts them in trials, and guides them through adversity.
Do not let your heart stop loving His Word, nor stop fixing your eyes on the God of heaven. When believers lose sight of God, they become vulnerable to fear and compromise. But when their eyes are fixed on Him, they find strength to endure. Your salvation comes from the Lord alone, not from human approval, social acceptance, or worldly success. He is faithful to sustain those who trust in Him.
Do not allow mockery to shape your identity or define your worth. Instead, place your ways daily into the hands of the Lord. Commit your thoughts, decisions, and actions to Him. Seek His guidance through prayer and His wisdom through Scripture. When you do this consistently, He will help you to continue. God never abandons those who walk faithfully with Him.
In the end, perseverance in obedience brings eternal reward. While the world may mock today, the faithful servant will one day hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” That promise is greater than any insult or rejection we may face now.
